Faculty members serve multiple roles as teachers, mentors, colleagues, and scholars. Full‑time faculty are expected not only to excel in classroom instruction but also to fulfill various responsibilities as active members of the college and the northwest Arkansas community. Responsibilities Teach 15 teaching load hours per semester during the nine‑month employment period (12‑month faculty teach 12 hours in the summer for a total of 42 hours annually). Include class preparation, evaluations, and alternative delivery methods as needed. Provide effective instruction, facilitate student learning, and perform evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes, using each course's standard course outline as a guide. Conduct class‑related office hours, offer general student development services, and participate in weekly committee work (including club sponsorship, advisory boards, tutoring, etc.) to fulfill a total of 15 teaching load hours. Develop course curriculum, handouts, lectures, labs, and presentations. Participate in program‑level learning assessment, including articulating learning outcomes, administering measures, evaluating student performance, and suggesting improvements. Collaborate with other faculty and administrators in developing program curriculum, standards, and policies, and review and participate in the textbook selection process when appropriate. Schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinical, internship, observation, field‑experience, and similar settings as appropriate for the course or program. Be available to meet with students; communicate hours of availability in the course syllabus each semester. Assign grades, maintain course and student records in accordance with FERPA regulations, and submit grades and records by established deadlines. Attend all classes and other scheduled responsibilities, including office hours and meetings at the designated times, and inform the supervisor if a class cannot be met on time. Teach courses by alternative delivery methods as needed, which may include teaching at other facilities in Benton or Washington County, evenings, or weekends. Tutor at facilities in both Benton and Washington Counties in the daytime, afternoon, night, or weekend. Attend departmental, divisional, and college‑wide meetings. Engage in professional development, such as participating in faculty evaluation processes, remaining current in academic disciplines (attending conferences, maintaining licensure, certification, or continuing education), and receiving training in technological or pedagogical advances that promote student learning. Provide service to the college by serving on standing and ad‑hoc committees, programmatic advisory boards, hiring committees, the faculty senate, or by acting as a liaison for Early College Experience faculty; attend local, regional, state, or national meetings; mentor and/or assist in orienting new faculty; and perform other academically related duties as assigned by the instructor's supervisor. Participate in community and other educational activities outside the college to promote and market NWACC, its programs, and its students and graduates. Accept additional duties assigned as necessary to support the goals and objectives of the department and college. Qualifications Master's Degree or higher in Biology, Environmental Biology, Botany, Plant Science, Plant/Animal Physiology, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Ecology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Zoology, Entomology, Microbiology, or Agronomy. Minimum of one year experience teaching in higher education as the instructor of record. Knowledge of the organization and administration of various higher education academic and social programs. Knowledge of campus and community resources. Knowledge of state, federal, and campus rules, regulations, and requirements related to campus academic and social programs. Ability to coordinate the activities of campus academic and/or social programs. Ability to evaluate collected information and formulate recommendations. Ability to compile information into report form. Physical Demands Frequently manipulate items with fingers, including keyboarding. Frequently sit, stand, and walk. Frequently hear, perform repetitive motion, and talk. Constantly perform tasks requiring close visual acuity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, or visual inspection at close distances. Work Environment The typical work environment is a professional office setting with moderate noise levels from conversations, office equipment, and occasional staff movement. Lighting is standard for office spaces, and temperature is maintained within a comfortable range. Employees may occasionally visit other areas, such as storage rooms, conference spaces, or outdoor locations, where conditions may vary. Exposure to louder noise levels or physical activities, such as moving lightweight materials, might be required on an infrequent basis.
