Description:
The Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals experiencing medical emergencies.
This role involves triaging, assessing, and providing immediate care in a fast-paced environment.
ER RNs work collaboratively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver rapid care for a wide range of medical conditions, from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies.
The role includes assessing, delegating, coordinating, and evaluating the nursing care provided.
This RN ensures the provision of quality care for selected groups of patients through the utilization of the nursing process, established standards of care, policies, and procedures.
This position involves direction and supervision of any personnel assigned.
Essential job functions include:
- Conducting thorough assessments of patients upon arrival, including vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms.
- Prioritizing patients based on the severity of their condition, ensuring that critical cases are attended first.
- Administering medications, intravenous fluids, and treatments as per physician orders.
- Performing emergency procedures such as wound care and splinting.
- Continuously monitoring patients' vital signs and responses to treatments and adjusting interventions as needed.
- Working closely with the medical team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and support staff.
- Accurately recording patient information, treatment plans, and responses to care in electronic health records or paper charts as required.
- Providing patients and families with information regarding diagnoses, procedures, and follow-up care instructions.
- Responding to rapid response calls, code blue situations, or any critical situation requiring immediate intervention.
- Advocating for patients to ensure their rights, dignity, and preferences are respected at all times while providing care.
- Following all infection control protocols to minimize the risk of infection for patients and healthcare staff.
- Participating in the ongoing evaluation of care quality and suggesting improvements in processes or procedures to optimize patient outcomes.
The employee supports the organization's mission and values, and participates in required education for applicable programs.
This position may require floating to other departments where the employee is qualified to perform patient care.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Personal traits and qualities required include the ability to perform a variety of duties often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.
The ability to accept responsibility for the direction, control, planning of an activity is important.
Making evaluations and decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria is necessary.

Qualifications for this role include:
- Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Desired: BSN.
Physical requirements include the ability to perceive the nature of sounds, express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word, perceive characteristics of objects visually, extend arms and hands in any direction, and work with hands and fingers.
Candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Continuous walking and standing for long shifts, often in high-stress situations, is required.
Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors.
Working conditions include an inside environment, protected from the weather but not necessarily temperature changes.
Employees are subject to frequent exposure to infection, contagious disease, hazardous materials and equipment, and occasionally to combative patients.
Variable noise levels and rapid-paced environments with multiple stimuli and critical situations are typical.
Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays, as emergency departments operate continuously.
