Purpose:

The Behavioral Intervention Specialist Level & Residential Coordinator, as part of the each person’s support team, identifies and supports behavioral challenges, with the goal of maximizing each person’s independence. In addition, they will provide positive

interactions/interventions and skills training with a person-centered approach. The Behavioral Intervention Specialist & Residential Coordinator, will develop person-centered behavior support plans and behavioral health protocols to assist people in enhancing their quality of life and achieving their personal outcomes. In addition to behavior support, the Behavior Intervention

Specialist & Residential Coordinator will directly assist the Residential and QIDP teams with various tasks and initiatives as requested. To provide mentorship and guidance for Direct Support Professionals in the residential programs, ensuring person-centered supports are provided to the people AIM serves

Qualifications:

• Must have a master’s degree in behavior analysis, mental health counseling, and/or a closely related field to clinical or community psychology or social work approved by OPWDD and accredited by the NYS Education Department.
• Five [5] years of writing, implementation, and monitoring of behavioral support plans, and/or providing supervision and training to others in the implementation of behavior support plans.
• Knowledge of and training in SCIP-R preferred (provided).
• Knowledge of OPWDD regulatory requirements.
• Have had documented training in assessment techniques and behavioral support plan development.
• Ability to work independently, organizational skills, and reliability in decision making.
• Flexibility of schedule to meet job duties/individual needs

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

• Interaction with persons served, and in the course of instruction may involve teaching/applying intervention techniques.
• Minimum 50 pound lifting and bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated interest and ability to facilitate the personal outcomes of persons served, working in a team approach as appropriate.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and electronic medical record systems.
• Adherence to attendance and all other Agency policies.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License acceptable to agency insurance standards, preferred.
• Maintain valid insurance and provide insurance card if you use your own vehicle

Essential Functions:

• Develop, monitor, and evaluate person specific behavior supports for assigned programs.
• Ensure that a behavior support plan that incorporates any limitations on a person’s rights and /or has a restrictive/intrusive intervention is approved by the human rights committee. Facilitate or perform a Functional Behavior Assessment that identifies the person’s needs and is compliant with all applicable regulations.
• Complete monthly summaries and assist with QIDP responsibilities as assigned/requested by the Senior QIDP and/or Director of Residential Services.
• Assist the Director of Residential, Assistant Directors of Residential and the Residential.
• Managers as requested/assigned by the Director of Residential. This includes, but is not limited to, providing training for Managers and Assistant Managers, providing extra support or guidance, and filling in during the absence of a manager.
• Provide training by modeling and oversight for staff.
• Update assessments annually to include re-evaluation of adaptive behavior skills as requested, as well as rights and abilities review.
• Participate as an active member of the support team, working with other staff, disciplines, agencies, etc., to meet people’s needs, as well as attending meetings/reviews and communicating progress/performance and providing written reports as needed.
• Work with each person’s team to coordinate psychological, psychiatric, psycho-social services into plan of care, as needed.
• Ensure all consents are obtained and human rights committee review is completed.
• Assist in crisis intervention as assigned/requested.
• Ensure consultation and documentation with regard to people’s ability consent in various life situations
• Maintain contact with families as needed/requested.

Other Duties:

• Liaison with PhD. Psychologist consultant.
• Participate on committees as needed/requested.
• All other related duties as requested by supervisor or designee.
