Surgical Technologist II - NRVMC

Position Overview Full‑time Surgical Technologist II – NRVMC (Open) – Employment Status: Full time. Shift: Weekends only. Location: 2900 Lamb Cir – Christiansburg, United States. Responsibilities Participate in the delivery of individualized peri‑operative registered nursing care under the supervision of a licensed physician or a registered professional nurse. Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to ensure quality patient care. Establish and maintain a sterile field and assure the team maintains a sterile environment. Correctly and safely pass instruments to the clinician. Participate in surgical counts (sponges, needles and instruments) per policy. Communicate with surgeons, gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, other staff and patients to facilitate continuity of care. Follow policies, procedures, all regulatory standards and patient safety goals. Participate in the nursing process for patients of all ages served. Participate in unit educational activities. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent. Successfully completed an accredited surgical technologist training program and holds a current credential as a certified surgical technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor. Certification in Surgical Technology required; LPN licensure required for grandfathered employees. Obtain and/or maintain registration with the VA Dept of Health Professions. Knowledge of instrumentations and the principles of growth and development through the life span; demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
