Advancement to Year 2 is contingent upon successful completion of Year 1. See below for more details. This program is currently looking to fill 1 opening for an APC/APP position for someone who is interested in developing and expanding their medical expertise on top of their license(s). This would be filled by either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. This fellowship is being handled by leadership within the I.R. department. Two job postings are listed for this opening under a Nurse Practitioner and a Physician Assistant Physician Assistants can apply here: Fellowship Summary: This is immersive fellowship provides structured clinical training, progressive procedural experience, and comprehensive didactic education aligned with the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) APP Core Curriculum. Fellows work closely with experienced interventional radiologists, and APC/APPs to develop expertise in image-guided procedures, peri-procedural patient management, and complex clinical decision-making. During the first year, fellows focus on foundational IR skills through core clinical rotations, supervised procedural training, and structured didactics. In the second year, fellows transition into an Instructor-level role, gaining greater clinical independence while expanding their experience through advanced rotations in areas such as oncology, hepatology, vascular disease, and surgery.
Graduates of the program are prepared to practice independently as Interventional Radiology APC/APPs in both academic and community environments, equipped with the procedural competency, clinical judgment, and leadership skills required in this rapidly evolving specialty.
The fellowship reflects the University of Utah's commitment to innovative education, multidisciplinary collaboration, and excellence in patient care, while supporting the growth of the next generation of Interventional Radiology APC/APP leaders.
Upon completion of the program, the IR APC/APP fellow will receive a certificate from the University of Utah School of Medicine confirming successful completion of all curriculum requirements and satisfactory achievement of the program's core competencies. Graduates will be eligible for credentialing in multiple interventional radiology procedures after demonstrating not only technical proficiency, but also the ability to recognize potential complications and manage them appropriately.
The IR APC/APP Fellowship requires a two-year employment commitment from the fellow. Progression from the IR APC/APP Fellow year to the IR APC/APP Instructor year, as well as successful completion of the fellowship, is not guaranteed . Advancement is contingent upon satisfactory clinical performance, achievement of milestone targets, completion of procedural and educational requirements, demonstration of professionalism, teamwork, and approval by the Program Director and Division Leadership. Successful completion of Year 1 is required for progression to the Instructor role.

Preferred
Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
Utah State prescriptive privileges.
Licensure is obtained by completing a Master's degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.

- Year 1: IR APC/APP Fellows receive a salary of $85,000 with full fellowship benefits, including health insurance coverage, paid time off and a very competitive benefits package.
- Year 2: IR APC/APP Instructors receive compensation per the APC/APP salary grid dependent upon any experience prior to enrollment into the IR APC/APP Fellowship.
Year 1 - IR APC/APP Fellowship Curriculum: Clinical training
- Fellows are assigned to the Core IR Service and participate in inpatient and outpatient rotations, post-procedural care, and performance of procedures with graduated responsibility.
- Medical and Surgical ICUs for a total of 4 weeks (2 weeks with each service)
- Call shifts - responsibilities are determined by rotation, level of training, and departmental policy
- Call will not be required during ICU rotations
- Completion of structured didactics covering all but not limited to: IR fundamentals, vascular access, hepatobiliary disease, embolization, oncology, neurovascular, musculoskeletal, lymphatic interventions, and radiation safety
- Monthly journal club, case conferences, simulation and completion of core lectures
- Participation in quality improvement, educational, or scholarly activities is expected when opportunities align with departmental priorities and institutional resources
- Giving inter-departmental lectures and teaching opportunities
- Instructors function with increasing independence while maintaining educational oversight
- Independent consult management, peri- and post-procedural care, credentialed procedures, workflow optimization, and reaching responsibilities
- Teaching responsibilities may include participation in the education of medical students, residents, fellows, and APC/APPs
- May include onboarding and mentorship of new APC/APP hires
- Six elective rotations, selected with program leadership
- May include vascular ultrasound, neuro-vascular, neuro-spine, MSK, abdominal, oncology (Huntsman Cancer Center), GI/hepatology, transplant surgery, trauma surgery, pediatric IR and community IR/off-campus clinic exposure
