Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary Job Summary The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Nurse Coordinator to function as a member of the Pediatric Gastroenterology team at Primary Children's Hospital. The team consists of 10 RN's working with 4 NP's and 21 MD's. Responsible for delivering professional nursing care to patients in-person, via phone, or via patient portal. Utilizes strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status; implements clinical nursing interventions to modify symptoms; develops, implements, and evaluates patient care plans and patient education materials to enhance and improve outcomes; and ensures a safe and therapeutic environment.
This position requires an on-site presence most days per week, but may allow for occasional telecommuting work, dependent on operational needs. The on-site days will vary each week depending on the assigned providers' schedules. Job location is expected to be primarily at the Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital Salt Lake City campus, but may also require a few days per month at the Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital Miller Campus located in Lehi, UT or Layton, UT depending on clinical needs. Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
Two years general nursing experience.
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
One year of directly related experience in an area of specialty is preferred.

- Develops and participates in educating patients and their families about care programs.
- Communicates lab & other test results to families.
- Provides medication refills.
- Assists providers and staff with patient-related paperwork such as letters of medical necessity, DMV forms, school care plans, and preauthorization.
- 1Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
- Works closely with triage team and gastroenterology staff to provide high quality, efficient care to patients and their families.
- Keeps current on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs.
- Orients and educates new staff in nursing techniques and departmental procedures.
- Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precaution, and initiates appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
- Participates in total quality management to positively affect patient and system outcomes to improve care.
- Provides nursing support to the pancreatitis clinic, managing care coordination, triage, patient education, and follow-up for a complex pediatric pancreatitis population.
- Coordinates closely with pancreatitis-specialized physicians, the Advanced Endoscopy Clinical Nurse Coordinator, registered dietitians, behavioral health providers, and other interdisciplinary team members to support comprehensive, coordinated patient care across the continuum.
- Prepares patients for clinic visits by completing thorough chart review and pre-visit planning, including summarizing interval history since the last visit (e.g., hospitalizations, emergency department visits, laboratory results, imaging, procedures, medication changes, and external records) to support efficient clinic flow and accurate provider documentation.
- Collects and enters patient data relevant to pancreatitis care and outcomes, including use of REDCap, to support quality improvement initiatives and future research efforts, in accordance with institutional policies and approved protocols.
- Assists with in-clinic patient and family needs, including care coordination, clarification of treatment plans, and real-time support during clinic visits.
- Prepares and manages patient-related documentation and paperwork, including school notes, medication administration forms, 504 plan documentation, letters of medical necessity, and other forms requiring provider review and signature.
- Supports medication access by assisting families with medication assistance programs, insurance coordination, and affordability resources when applicable.
- Facilitates referrals to other specialties and services as directed by providers, ensuring timely coordination and follow-up.
- Communicates with the prior authorization team to support medication approvals, procedures, and diagnostic testing for pancreatitis patients.
- Provides and coordinates post-clinic follow-up with patients and families to reinforce care plans, address questions or concerns, and ensure continuity of care.
- Supports the Advanced Endoscopy Clinical Nurse Coordinator's patients and providers during planned or unplanned absences to ensure uninterrupted patient care.
