Animal Care Technician - TempWe are searching for a compassionate, organized, and welfare-focused Animal Care Technician to join our Vivarium on a contract basis. You will support breeding operations for our two proprietary mouse strains, DiversimAb and DivergimAb. Animal welfare is at the forefront of this position, and you must share in our commitment to providing a high standard of living for our mice. Husbandry and Facility duties are shared across the team according to functional area.This full-time position requires a Tuesday-Saturday schedule. Vivarium operating hours are between 5:30am-5:30pm per the facility light schedule. Holidays are staffed on a rotating schedule.Responsibilities:Perform daily mouse husbandry, including cage changes, adding enrichment, and replacing food and water on a set scheduleAssist Vivarium Director with special tasks, including breeding operationsPerform daily spot checks for ad hoc changeoutsPerform daily health and welfare observations, report findings to Veterinary Nurse, and perform minor treatments under the direction of the Veterinary NurseEnsure animals are provided with a clean, comfortable, and entertaining environmentMaintain inventory of supplies, including ordering, receiving, unboxing, and storing itemsPerform disinfection/sanitization of equipment, supplies, and facilityPerform waste removal and recyclingEnsure all rooms are fully stocked for useMaintain accurate, detailed daily recordsMaintain a clean and organized workspaceAssist in receipt of animals from outside vendorsPerform euthanasia techniques per AVMA guidelines (primary method: CO2)Function within a high performing team with a strong focus on collaboration and communicationParticipate in departmental and company meetings and presentationsInterface with laboratory, operations, and management staffAdhere to Standard Operating Procedures and help improve current processesFollow Institutional, local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure proper animal care, health, and welfareOther duties as assigned, which may include cross-training to support other rolesQualifications:Proficiency in verbal and written English required1+ years of lab animal or veterinary experience preferred, level dependent on experienceExperience in an AAALAC accredited facility preferredAALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) preferred; must sit for exam within 12 months of employmentApproved Veterinary Assistants (AVA) welcomePhysical Requirements:Lift 40lbsWalk and stand for several hours per dayPerform repetitive motions (bend, squat, kneel, twist, reach above shoulder height, bottle capping, push/pull)Perform quick, simple grasping motion with both hands for several hours per dayWear full Personal Protective Equipment for several hours per day (mask, coveralls, gloves, shoe covers, hairnet)About Twist BioscienceTwist Bioscience synthesizes genes from scratch, known as "writing" DNA.
