Area Manager

Proudly operating as a member of North American Rail Solutions (NARS), American Track is seeking an experienced Area Manager to facilitate sales and operational efforts within the assigned region. This role is the key leader in all aspects of the organization including safety, productivity, and effectiveness of sales, administrative, and operational functions. Successful candidates possess operational expertise and the ability to work in an autonomous environment and lead their team to profitability and positive key performance metrics. Major Responsibilities Ensure the staff are conducting their work in a safe, efficient, and responsible manner in compliance with federal, local, and company guidelines. Manage the execution of all operations within assigned area, including inspections, repair, and construction of tracks, signals, and roadbeds. Prepare annual budgets, set financial goals, and establish sales targets with senior leaders within the organization. Analyze monthly KPI reporting and coordinate with staff on any discrepancies. Regularly prepare and report results regarding activity, status of projects, and leads for company financials and sales opportunity pipeline. Oversee inventory levels to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and responsible reporting. Assign/dispatch crews and equipment for maintenance and projects within the assigned region. Establish headcount targets and participate in interviewing candidates. Lead, motivate, and train staff to accomplish company goals and objectives. Communicate regularly with staff and participate in leadership meetings and training courses. Participate in pre-production planning meetings and collaborate with engineers, subcontractors, supervisors, and others to determine project needs. Manage key customer relationships and participate in the sales process within assigned region. Assess and analyze future customer needs to increase revenue within assigned region. All other duties as assigned. Requirements Education High School Diploma/GED Minimum. Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Civil/Construction Engineering, Marketing, or related field or equivalent work experience preferred. Work Experience Required 5+ years in railroad operational or sales leadership. 3+ years in P&L management and budgeting. Skills & Knowledge Required Qualified on FRA Title 49 Part 213 and Part 214 track safety standards. Ensure compliance with all company, customer, and FRA rules/policies. Knowledge of rail maintenance and/or commercial construction operations. Ability to read/interpret engineering drawings, right-of-way maps, and construction plans. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Organized with attention to detail. Advanced proficiency in MS Office. Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with others. Ability to work in fluid environments, highly flexible, and set/adjust priorities with market needs. Excellent planning and time management abilities. Ability to multitask effectively. Valid State Driver’s License – CDL (or ability to obtain one within 90 days); pass DOT alcohol & drug testing. Physical Demand Ability to frequently work in outdoor environments and all weather conditions, covering large/remote territories. Nonstandard workweeks, 24/7 on‑call availability, and long hours. Ability to frequently lift 50 lbs, occasionally up to 70 lbs, and handle materials. Extensive walking on ballast and uneven terrain, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, and crawling.
