The Law Offices of Parag L. Amin, P.C. ("LawPLA") is seeking an experienced California appellate attorney for a short-term contract engagement involving a specific appellate matter.

We are looking for an attorney who can step in quickly, evaluate the record and procedural posture, identify the strongest appellate issues, and produce sophisticated, persuasive, court-ready appellate work with minimal supervision.

This is not a training role and is not a general litigation position . The ideal attorney has substantial hands-on experience with California civil appeals and can independently manage appellate research, strategy, briefing, and related procedural requirements.

For this engagement, we value exceptional legal analysis and writing above all else. You should be comfortable working through a substantial record, spotting preservation and standard-of-review issues, developing a clear appellate theory, and transforming complex legal and factual issues into concise, compelling written advocacy.

The initial engagement is for a single appellate project , although we may have additional appellate matters available in the future for an attorney whose work product and communication align with our standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review the record, relevant orders, pleadings, transcripts, and other materials necessary to evaluate the appeal.
• Identify and analyze viable appellate issues, including preservation, appealability, standards of review, and potential procedural obstacles.
• Conduct sophisticated legal research involving California appellate law, civil procedure, and substantive issues relevant to the matter.
• Develop appellate strategy in coordination with firm leadership.
• Draft, revise, and finalize persuasive appellate briefs and related filings.
• Ensure briefing complies with applicable California Rules of Court and appellate procedural requirements.
• Analyze opposing briefs and prepare effective reply briefing when required.
• Advise the firm regarding appellate risks, strengths, weaknesses, and strategic considerations.
• Communicate proactively regarding deadlines, issues identified in the record, and strategic recommendations.
• Produce polished, filing-ready work product with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active California Bar license in good standing.
• Significant California appellate experience required.
• State Bar of California Certified Specialist in Appellate Law designation or prior judicial clerkship experience is a plus, but not required.
• Demonstrated experience researching and drafting appellate briefs in complex civil matters.
• Strong command of California appellate procedure, standards of review, preservation of error, and record analysis.
• Exceptional legal research, analytical, and persuasive writing skills.
• Ability to independently review a substantial record, identify the strongest appellate issues, and distinguish potentially dispositive arguments from weaker ones.
• Highly organized and dependable, with strict attention to appellate deadlines and procedural requirements.
• Comfortable working remotely and collaborating efficiently with firm leadership. xhyhwjd
