Low Voltage Technician Lead

Job Title: Low Voltage Lead Technician Reports To: Project Manager Job Summary The Communications Technician II must be able to perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The role involves coordinating small groups of installers in the daily workload while adhering to company safety and quality standards. Job Duties and Responsibilities Install floor or wall outlets, terminating CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mounting face plates and surface mount boxes, and following IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards. Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware. Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections, e.g., terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels. Perform testing: continuity test on horizontal and riser cable, use a volt‑ohmmeter, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable, and use a tone set. Identify active voice or data circuits. Lead and train crew, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete projects. Complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, etc.). Adhere to and participate in all company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations. Perform other responsibilities as assigned. Minimum compensation: USD $23.00 per year; maximum compensation: USD $32.00 per year. Qualifications Self‑motivated, positive approach, professional demeanor, and ability to promote company culture to employees, vendors, clients and partners. Ability to act as the company liaison with customer representatives. Proven problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills, effective reading, writing, and oral presentation abilities. Ability to work at heights, off a ladder and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds. Excellent color vision, ability to read small print, and discern audible signals such as dial tones. Ability to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed; regular attendance mandatory. Holds a High School diploma or GED equivalency. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field, with demonstrated supervisory ability. Proficiency with listed tools and skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting and quality requirements. Knowledge of universal communications color codes and compliance with company minimum driving standards. Physical and Mental Requirements Perform work at heights, off a ladder, and in confined spaces. Lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds. Maintain color vision, ability to read small print, and recognize audible signals. Travel within branch or regional territory as required. Tools Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (belt sheath), pliers (needle‑nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves. Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, tone set, 6/8 position combo crimp tool. Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements Minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalency; at least two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field; proven supervisory capability; proficiency with tools and blueprints; knowledge of universal communication color codes; meeting company minimum driving standards.
