Position Summary

Samba Recovery is seeking a licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to provide clinical services within our inpatient detoxification and recovery program.

The Licensed Clinical Therapist will conduct clinical assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, provide individual and group counseling, support crisis intervention, and coordinate care for patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.

Candidates must hold an active Georgia LPC or LCSW license. An addiction counseling certification or other recognized substance use disorder credential is preferred but not required.

The therapist will collaborate with the Clinical Director, Medical Director, Nurse Practitioners, nursing staff, behavioral health technicians, case managers, discharge planners, and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.

Essential Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and clinical evaluations.
• Assess patients for substance use disorders, mental health conditions, trauma histories, psychosocial needs, and barriers to recovery.
• Complete suicide, self-harm, violence, elopement, and other clinical risk assessments.
• Recognize patients requiring immediate intervention, increased observation, emergency evaluation, or transfer to a higher level of care.
• Develop, implement, review, and update individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, clinical findings, and level-of-care requirements.
• Provide individual, group, and family counseling using evidence-based and clinically appropriate interventions.
• Apply trauma-informed, person-centered, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented treatment approaches.
• Provide counseling and psychoeducation related to addiction, relapse prevention, coping skills, emotional regulation, healthy relationships, recovery supports, and continuing care.
• Address co-occurring mental health symptoms within the therapist’s authorized scope of practice.
• Provide crisis assessment, de-escalation, stabilization, and clinical support as needed.
• Facilitate therapeutic groups according to the established clinical schedule.
• Monitor patient participation, engagement, progress, treatment barriers, and readiness for change.
• Document measurable progress toward treatment goals and revise interventions when clinically indicated.
• Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning, clinical case reviews, patient staffing meetings, and discharge planning.
• Coordinate care with medical providers, nursing staff, case management, families, referral sources, community providers, and outside treatment programs as authorized.
• Support appropriate transitions to residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient treatment, outpatient counseling, recovery housing, or other continuing-care services.
• Complete accurate, thorough, and timely documentation within the Kipu Electronic Medical Record.
• Maintain clinical assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, group notes, risk assessments, discharge documentation, and other required records.
• Ensure that clinical documentation supports the services provided, patient needs, treatment goals, medical necessity, and continuity of care.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and comply with applicable ethical standards.
• Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, facility policies, and other applicable privacy requirements.
• Participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, utilization review, compliance, and accreditation activities.
• Follow applicable DBHDD, Joint Commission, ASAM, payer, and organizational requirements.
• Participate in required staff meetings, clinical supervision, training, and continuing education.
• Provide weekend, holiday, or rotating coverage when required by the clinical schedule.
• Perform other clinically appropriate duties within the therapist’s education, license, training, competence, and authorized scope of practice.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a closely related behavioral health discipline from an appropriately accredited institution.
• Current and unrestricted Georgia license as either:
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); or
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
• Candidates must hold at least one of the licenses listed above. Dual LPC/LCSW licensure is not required.
• Ability to maintain all applicable professional licensing and continuing-education requirements.
• Knowledge of substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and relapse-prevention principles.
• Ability to conduct clinical assessments and develop individualized, measurable treatment plans.
• Strong individual and group counseling skills.
• Strong clinical documentation, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary detoxification and behavioral health treatment environment.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries, patient confidentiality, and ethical standards.
• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to behavioral health emergencies and changes in patient condition.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of clinical experience in addiction treatment, detoxification, behavioral health, mental health, residential treatment, or a comparable setting.
• Addiction certification or recognized substance use disorder credential, such as:
  • Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC)
  • Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor II (CADC-II)
  • Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC)
  • Master Addiction Counselor (MAC)
  • Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS)
  • Another recognized state or national addiction credential
• Experience treating patients with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders.
• Experience facilitating substance use disorder and behavioral health groups.
• Familiarity with ASAM Criteria and level-of-care recommendations.
• Familiarity with evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills, relapse-prevention therapy, and trauma-informed care.
• Experience conducting suicide-risk, self-harm, violence-risk, and crisis assessments.
• Experience with discharge planning, aftercare coordination, and community-resource referrals.
• Experience using Kipu or another behavioral health Electronic Medical Record system.
• Experience working within a DBHDD, Joint Commission, CARF, or similarly regulated healthcare environment.
• Experience supporting payer authorization, utilization review, or medical-necessity documentation.

Schedule

• Full-time position.
• Schedule may include weekdays, evenings, weekends, or holidays based on patient needs and the established clinical schedule.
• Participation in rotating clinical or crisis coverage may be required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Inpatient detoxification and behavioral health treatment environment.
• Regular interaction with patients experiencing withdrawal symptoms, substance use disorders, trauma-related symptoms, and co-occurring mental health conditions.
• Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately during behavioral health emergencies or crisis situations.
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, and move throughout the facility during the workday.
• Ability to occasionally lift or assist with up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to use stairs during emergency drills, evacuations, or facility activities.
