Research Opportunities - Ophthalmology

Scheduled Hours 40 hours per week. Position Summary We seek a skilled researcher to support our translational vision science research portfolio through the Bright Center for Human Vision at WashU Medicine. The candidate will join our team, bolster the development and implementation of human models of blinding disease, and help advance our mission to understand, preserve, and restore vision. The successful candidate will support the Center's human retinal explant service and generate/maintain retinal organoids used to test novel small molecule drugs and develop new human‑relevant gene therapies with potential to address unmet needs and advance patient care. More information about the Bright Center for Human Vision is available here: Primary Duties & Responsibilities Collaboration with the Director of the Bright Center to provide research consultations, plan projects utilizing retinal explant and/or organoid services. Generation/maintenance of retinal cultures and organoids, which may require occasional weekend hours or flexibility on scheduled workdays. Rigorous documentation of experimental protocols and results. Clear communication with the Bright Center team and collaborators to appropriately prioritize projects and provide optimal customer service. Working Conditions This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals. Salary Range Base pay is commensurate with experience. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience may substitute for minimum education. Certifications/Professional Licenses: No specific certification or professional license is required. Work Experience: No specific work experience is required. Skills: Not applicable. Driver's License: Not required. Preferred Qualifications Tissue culture experience. Microscopy experience. Candidates with additional education and experience are encouraged to apply.
