Contract to Hire Position

We are looking for an experienced Human Resources (HR) Manager to support and strengthen people operations for an organization in the education industry. This is a Contract to Hire position based in San Jose, California. In this role, you will partner with leaders and employees to foster a compliant, responsive, and employee-centered workplace across the full employment lifecycle. The position requires a strategic HR leader who can balance day-to-day execution with guidance on complex personnel matters while promoting consistent practices and positive employee experiences.

Responsibilities:

• Partner with managers and staff to provide guidance on workplace concerns, policy interpretation, performance matters, and employee relations issues.

• Oversee recruiting activities from sourcing and interviews through offers, onboarding, and retention initiatives to help build a strong workforce.

• Conduct thorough and impartial employee relations reviews, documenting findings carefully and recommending appropriate next steps.

• Administer HR programs and processes to ensure alignment with company policies and applicable employment regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.

• Manage benefits-related activities, including open enrollment coordination and leave administration, while working closely with external vendors and service providers.

• Lead performance management efforts by coaching supervisors, supporting review processes, and delivering training on HR practices and compliance expectations.

• Maintain and improve HR procedures, systems, and service delivery methods, including support for HRIS and payroll processes such as Paycom.

• Supervise HR team members and collaborate with operations and legal partners to address organizational priorities, compliance matters, and risk considerations.

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• At least 10 years of progressive HR experience, including 5 or more years in a senior-level role with responsibility for advising leaders and overseeing staff.
• Hands-on experience with Paycom, including payroll or payroll support activities within an HR environment.
• Strong understanding of employment law, HR compliance standards, and best practices for handling sensitive or confidential matters.
• Demonstrated ability to manage employee relations concerns, conduct investigations, and influence outcomes through sound judgment and collaboration.
• Experience supporting benefits administration, onboarding, full-cycle recruiting, and performance management programs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR information systems, along with strong organizational, communication, and process improvement skills.
