Senior Research Technician - Pathology & Immunology

Position Summary Microbiology Pathology Research Collaborative investigates novel diagnostic methods for infectious disease. This position performs research study experiments (including routine and novel assays on blood and body fluids), preparation of materials, execution of laboratory procedures, and documentation in accordance with local, state, and federal clinical research requirements. This position provides opportunities to gain experience in clinical research and the potential to contribute to scientific publications. Responsibilities Performs complex analysis/procedures according to research protocols, including specimen processing, instrument maintenance, and explaining methods and procedures to other technicians. Performs microorganism culture, using aseptic technique. Enters data and maintains current data files on research projects. Monitors data to ensure consistent quality. May perform preliminary statistical analysis of data. Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions, including lab supply inventory. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures. Assists in the training and development of technicians, acting as a group leader. Performs other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Works in a biosafety level 2 laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals. Qualifications Education: Master’s degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education. Certifications/Professional Licenses: No specific certification or professional license is required. Work Experience: Laboratory Setting (1 Year). Skills: Not applicable.
