About the Black Organizing Project The Black Organizing Project (BOP) is a Black member‑led community organization working for racial, social, and economic justice through grassroots organizing and community‑building in Oakland, California and across the Bay Area. In addition to caring for our community, BOP has adopted a more sustainable philosophy for our staff. We take pride in caring for our staff by providing competitive salaries, a 4‑day work week, three paid company‑wide seasonal rest periods each year, and other perks that promote a healthy work‑life balance. While BOP currently observes a hybrid work model, we require all program staff to live within a one‑hour driving distance from Oakland, CA. About the Campaign The Alameda County Living Wage for All coalition (members listed below) is putting a $30 minimum wage with no exceptions on the November 2026 ballot in response to the current affordability crisis. The MIT Living Wage Calculator says that a single person, even if two adults are working with two children, needs at least $41.31 to cover basic necessities; this ballot measure would phase the minimum wage up to $30 by 2030 for large corporations and by not later than 2035 for small businesses. Current polling shows 71% of Alameda County voters support a $30 minimum wage. The coalition has funding for a worker‑led signature gathering program and is looking for community partners to endorse. The Alameda County effort is led by the BOP, Trabajadores Unidos/Workers United and One Fair Wage and is part of a national Living Wage for All coalition and campaign spearheaded by One Fair Wage, National Education Association, Popular Democracy, Policy Link, NAACP and 100 other labor and community organizations nationwide. Within this coalition, the BOP aims to center Black demands to ensure not only Black participation and leadership to secure a Living Wage for All but also that the victory sets us up to ensure that businesses across the region ‘Hire Black.’ We see this as an opportunity to organize Black residents, Black community and labor leaders, and Black business owners toward that end. Position Description & Functions BOP’s Oakland/Alameda County Campaign Manager will serve as a senior strategist and campaign leader for the Living Wage for All efforts and BOP’s strategic role within this larger campaign. The Campaign Manager will manage BOP’s LW4A campaign efforts day to day, including field operations, and will focus on high‑level political leadership, coalition building, and resource development, leveraging their relationships and reputation to strengthen and guide the campaign. This role reports to Co‑Organizing Director Malcolm Harris, and works in collaboration with the Oakland/Alameda County Living Wage for All Campaign. Responsibilities Day‑to‑Day Management Manage all day‑to‑day aspects of the campaign including operations, supply ordering, etc. Manage Field Operations Manage internal paid & volunteer field program ensuring that all goals & metrics are met Work with the ballot initiative director on field strategy Co‑lead a paid field program in Oakland/Alameda County Develop materials to support the field program; including but not limited to hiring, partner materials and community engagement materials Help train managers and canvassers when necessary Track metrics to ensure we are on track to hit goals and allocate resources as necessary Keep the field office staffed during work hours if necessary Hold canvassing staff accountable to individual goals Develop the skills and leadership of staff In partnership with the Living Wage for All Coalition leadership, develop and implement an aggressive voter persuasion and GOTV plan Coalition & Stakeholder Engagement Leverage existing relationships with Black and other elected officials, union leaders, advocacy groups, and community leaders, and Black Business owners Expand and strengthen the campaign’s coalition In collaboration with the BOP LW4ALL Co‑Director, represent the campaign in public forums, stakeholder meetings, partner events, and press opportunities Facilitate coalition meetings as necessary With the BOP LW4ALL Co‑Director support, prepare agendas and reminders for all BOP meetings related to the campaign With the BOP LW4ALL Co‑Director support, maintain updated contact lists and coalition data Set up and lead 1:1’s and group presentations with partners/stakeholders Resource Development Assist with fundraising by cultivating donors and institutional supporters Help bring financial, political, and organizational resources into the campaign Advisory & Support Role Provide strategic advice to field, communications, and organizing staff Act as a senior advisor to the Living Wage for All Campaign on efforts in neighborhoods and networks where BOP is targeting its efforts Other duties as assigned Work collaboratively with the Organizing team to ensure that there are leadership development opportunities for BOP members and staff embedded into campaign work Ensure that contacts made through field work are appropriately recorded Preferred Skills and Qualifications A respected and well‑connected leader At least two cycles of campaign experience Residence in Oakland for several years Strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, responsiveness, and a passion for the work Energetic and innovative Proficiency with voter mobilization tools is required Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and work long, irregular hours; including weekends A commitment to fighting for workers and people on a subminimum wage including youth, people on disability, tipped, and incarcerated workers Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and familiar using a database Ability to adapt to different personalities and changing situations Ability to be solution‑oriented Self‑motivated with the ability to work and think independently Strong time management and multitasking skills Willingness to travel as necessary Having deep roots in Oakland, graduating from an Oakland Unified School District, or having a child enrolled in Oakland Unified Schools District is a PLUS Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation required All positions at BOP are expected to contribute to our campaign work as needed and as directed by staff supervisors and/or Executive Director Conditions and Compensation This is a temporary full‑time, exempt, at‑will position for the term of May 15 to November 15, 2026. Background check is required for all positions at BOP. For positions working directly with children fingerprinting will be required as well upon job offer. Compensation: $85,000 on an annualized basis, plus a 32‑hour FTE work week, incredible co‑workers, inspiring work, and more. While the salary will be based on competence and experience at the conclusion of the interview process, the compensation is non‑negotiable, aligning with our internal equity principles and compensation philosophy.
