Sr. MEP Engineer

Job Description

Position Summary

MP Engineers+ is seeking an experienced Senior MEP Engineer with 7+ years of experience in commercial, residential, mixed-use, and facilities design . The ideal candidate will be capable of leading MEP design projects, providing technical direction, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing client relationships, and overseeing projects from concept through construction administration.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of MEP systems for commercial, residential, mixed-use, institutional, and facilities projects.
\n
• Manage projects through all phases, including conceptual design, design development, construction documents, permitting, and construction administration .
\n
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment schedules, and technical reports.
\n
• Perform and oversee HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other building-system design and engineering calculations.
\n
• Lead coordination with architects, structural engineers, contractors, vendors, and other consultants.
\n
• Conduct site surveys, existing-condition assessments, field inspections, and construction observations.
\n
• Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and technical design issues .
\n
• Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings, calculations, specifications, and project deliverables.
\n
• Ensure designs comply with applicable NY/NJ building codes, energy codes, ASHRAE, NFPA , and other relevant standards.
\n
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers and designers.
\n
• Participate in client meetings and communicate project requirements, technical solutions, schedules, and design decisions.
\n
• Assist with project planning, scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and resource coordination.
\n
• Support troubleshooting of MEP issues during construction and assist with project closeout and commissioning.
\n
• Identify opportunities for design improvements, value engineering, energy efficiency, and cost-effective solutions.
\n

Minimum Qualifications

\n
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing Engineering, or related engineering discipline .
\n
• 7+ years of professional MEP/building systems design experience .
\n
• Strong experience with commercial, residential, mixed-use, institutional, or facilities projects .
\n
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit/Revit MEP .
\n
• Strong knowledge of building MEP systems, engineering calculations, construction documents, and applicable codes.
\n
• Proven ability to independently manage design assignments and lead multidisciplinary coordination.
\n
• Strong written, verbal, analytical, and project management skills.
\n

Preferred Qualifications

\n
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; NY/NJ PE strongly preferred.
\n
• Strong knowledge of NYC and New Jersey building and energy codes .
\n
• Experience with NYC DOB filings, permitting, and AHJ coordination is a plus.
\n
• Experience with HVAC load calculations, equipment selection, plumbing systems, electrical systems, and fire protection coordination.
\n
• Familiarity with HAP, TRACE, Navisworks, Bluebeam, or other MEP/design software is a plus.
\n
• Experience with construction administration, commissioning, and field inspections.
\n
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and reviewing technical deliverables.
