Category: Exceptional Student Education Teachers Job Description Position Goal: To work diligently and conscientiously in the role of instructional personnel to help students meet or exceed annual learning goals, to meet state and local achievement requirements, and to master the skills required to graduate from high school prepared for postsecondary education and work. Performance Responsibilities: Help students become proficient in challenging standards and meet all state and local requirements for achievement. Teach diligently and conscientiously, using prescribed materials and methods, including technology-based instruction. Keep records and prepare and submit reports required by law, the school board, and/or the principal/administrator. Maintain a valid Florida educator’s certificate as required by state law and state board of education regulations. Perform those duties that are necessary for the diligent and conscientious instruction of students. Use prescribed and otherwise appropriate materials and methods. Conform to all laws and all school board, school and division policies and procedures. Deliver all keys, records and reports and account for all other assigned school district property to the principal/administrator at the end of the regular school year or summer school upon transfer or termination of employment, or at any other time as required by the principal/administrator or the superintendent. Administer prescription medication as assigned and in accordance with law and school board policy. Follow district policy with regard to reporting absences and enabling substitute coverage. Conform to policy regarding sexual harassment, within the contexts of teacher‑student, supervisor‑subordinate, and between persons of the same employment status. Conform to the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession in Florida. Conform to the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida. Assist in practicing and enforcing laws, rules and policy regarding the Volusia County Schools Code of Student Conduct, and those of Florida, including the authority to use alternatives. Conform to the Volusia County Schools Equity Plan and the tenets of the prohibition of discrimination. Attend staff meetings and in-service training as needed for job enhancement. Maintain knowledge of each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP), Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) and Educational Plan (EP) as appropriate and ensure such legal documents are implemented with fidelity as determined by the IEP or EP committee. Collect and report progress monitoring data of students with IEPs and BIPs and have data available for each IEP meeting. Develop IEP goals and objectives for students staffed into the ESE program. Report Present Levels of Performance on schedule required by district and dictated by state and federal requirements. Attend eligibility and placement staffings. Provide training and support to general education teachers regarding the implementation of IEPs and accommodations. Maintain and ensure accuracy of educational records of students with disabilities, including logs of supports/services and progress monitoring data. Maintain confidentiality in personally identifiable information obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves professional purpose or is required by law. Follow expectations and directives as communicated by the district’s Exceptional Student Education Department which are not in conflict with law, policy, or the contract.
