Registered Nurse II/III - MC/CHC - Recovery Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

The County of Riverside's Riverside University Health System (RUHS) is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (full‑time) for the Recovery Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This Level I Trauma Center unit operates 24/7 to support the operating room and may require participation in a rotating on‑call/back‑up schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. PACU nurses may also be floated within the perioperative services department or assigned as needed across the hospital. Qualifications Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience in a Level I Trauma Center or equivalent high‑acuity critical care setting. At least 1 year of recent PACU experience as a Registered Nurse is highly preferred. Valid California Registered Nurse license and bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field. Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care routines, medical instruments, medicines, and federal, state, and local nursing regulations. Ability to plan and organize nursing care, maintain accurate documentation, communicate with physicians and patients, and provide instruction to entry‑level staff. Required Licenses & Certifications Registered Nurse license in California. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (American Heart Association, Blue Cloud‑National Stroke Association, or Apex). Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) certification; may be obtained within 6 months of hire. Pediatric Care Advanced Resuscitation (PCAR) certification; may be obtained within 6 months of hire. Work Schedule 6/12–1/8, Night Shift: 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m. Rotating weekends, on‑call/back‑up coverage, and holiday work required. Compensation Registered Nurse II – $45.75–70.81 per hour. Registered Nurse III – $57.17–80.24 per hour. Evening Shift Differential (6:00–11:00 p.m.): $2.50 per hour. Night Shift Differential (11:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.): $5.00 per hour. Responsibilities Assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients following physician instructions. Assist physicians with treatments, examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical operations. Administer prescribed treatments and medications, record and report significant changes in patient condition. Counsel patients, families, and significant others about medical problems and healthcare methods. Maintain concise and complete records and reports; transcribe physician orders to working records. Provide orientation and training to new staff, residents, and students. Participate in quality assurance reviews; act as team leader or relief charge nurse. Assign and monitor the work of subordinate nursing personnel; participate in committee activities; identify training needs. Triage patients by reviewing admission charts and routing them to appropriate assignment or clinic flow. Testify in court regarding patient’s mental and physical condition. Coordinate and monitor patients through hospitalization using physicians, primary care nurses, and payors to maintain quality care and fiscal responsibility. Review post‑hospital care plan with patient/family; establish contact for timeframes and responsibilities; follow through discharge. Other Requirements Must possess and maintain a current valid California Registered Nurse license. Must maintain current valid BLS certificate (American Heart Association).
