Complies with Austal’s employee handbook general guidelines, company procedures and policies.QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:General: 2 to 6 years of relevant engineering experience in the manufacturing, construction (or similar) industry, shipbuilding industry preferredExcellent written and oral communication skillsPossesses leadership skills, Ability to help grow company culture.Capable of training and developing level 1 engineersUnderstanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlinesAbility to interact with Production, multiple design teams from several companies, customer representatives and equipment manufacturers.Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, and MS Office productsPreferred:Experienced in Steel and Aluminum Ship ConstructionWorking knowledge of ship and propulsion systemsWorking knowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities (i.e. ABS, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, etc.)Working knowledge of modular construction methodsWorking knowledge in design and construction of US Navy vesselsWorking knowledge of shock design Experience or knowledge of FEA methods, FEMAP / NASTRANWorking knowledge of composite shaftingElectrical Engineer Specific Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering degreeWorking knowledge of power distribution, motor controllers, variable frequency drives, lighting systems, and communication systemsWorking knowledge or familiarity of IEEE standards, ABS rules, IEC standards, SOLAS, Military Specifications, and/or NECADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:All candidates must meet Austal USA’s basic employment eligibility guidelines:The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities. 18 years of age or older at time of applicationAble to provide proof of US Person StatusNo felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition dateNo felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition dateWilling to submit to a drug screenWilling to submit to a background checkTOOLS:Computer – MS Office, AutoCADDIRECTION EXERCISED:May lead and direct the work of Engineers I, Designers and DraftspersonsMay determine technical adequacy of drawings and calculationsDISCRETION EXERCISED:May provide input to evaluations of Engineers I, Designers and DraftspersonsLIAISES WITH:Engineers, Production Personnel, Customer, Regulatory Bodies, Program Management and Equipment SuppliersWORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
