Hospital Director of Operations – PET Emergency Treatment (PET ER) We’re searching for a committed, experienced Hospital Director of Operations to join our dynamic team at PET Emergency Treatment (PET ER) – a thriving 24‑hour emergency and specialty hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. The role is essential to the daily success of our hospital and offers a chance to make a significant impact. PET ER provides specialty and 24‑hour emergency care services to pets and their owners in the Anchorage area and surrounding communities. Our highly skilled veterinarians and staff are dedicated to serving animals with exceptional specialty, emergency, and referral care, supporting the local veterinary community any time of day or night. PET is proudly accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. Being in Alaska, we sometimes support the Iditarod and occasional work with Sea Life Center. About the Hospital Established, newly expanded 24‑hour emergency and specialty hospital Large comfort room, large treatment area with a separate cat room, two large surgery suites and prep area, and isolation ward In‑house laboratory capabilities including Idexx Vet Suite (Catalyst Chemistry Analyzer, LaserCyte CBC, Urinalysis, and ELISA Snap Reader), and basic cytology Close association with a local full‑service laboratory In‑house ECG, echocardiogram, and ultrasound Digital radiography and CT Endoscopy, bronchoscopy, and rhinoscopy Excellent surgical monitoring capabilities with SurgiVet for non‑invasive blood pressure, 3‑Lead ECG, heart rate, digital SpO2, end‑tidal CO2, respiration, temperature, and built‑in printer Ventilator capabilities in surgery suite Complete pharmacy, OTC products, and prescription diets About the Role Directly oversee all operations and business activities and lead team members for all departments Partner effectively with the Medical Director, who is heavily involved in overall management and responsible for high‑quality patient care Translate vision into actionable plans and manage operations to achieve objectives Direct leadership team in a collaborative manner to resolve issues and grow the hospital Organize and conduct staff meetings, meeting regularly with managers to discuss, evaluate, and plan for the practice’s welfare Shape a positive hospital culture based on trust and teamwork that meets client and referring veterinarian needs Oversee recruitment, interviewing, hiring of staff and doctors in conjunction with the Medical Director Monitor employee competence and effectiveness through manager feedback, observation, performance and salary reviews, and oversee disciplinary actions and terminations Work closely with the Medical Director to establish excellent medical care while maintaining financial health and a profitable environment Exhibit a calming, humble, and teachable attitude while addressing decisive changes within the hospital Passionate about providing resources, support, and supervision for staff and fostering a positive, forward‑moving culture Strategic Orientation Develop in‑depth understanding of the local market and relationships with referring general practice veterinarians Participate and support planned marketing events and programs, ensuring staff utilizes marketing tools and materials Identify and execute short‑ and long‑term plans for growth, including new services, recruitment, pricing strategies, space optimization, and acquisition of new equipment Financial Analysis & Planning Responsible for accounting and finance processes, creating an annual operating budget that achieves revenue growth and profitability Lead hospital financial activities, including monthly review of financial statements and corrective action for variances Apply continuous improvement principles to financial and operating processes with constant communication and feedback with doctors and staff Owner of the P&L and responsible for meeting and exceeding expected financial results Review accounts receivable for timely processing Responsible for biweekly payroll processing Business Operations Inspirational leader who drives results across all business elements, setting goals and evaluating progress Help team align work with mission, vision, and values, contributing to success Partner with EVH and technology providers to support hospital activities and client experience Direct growth activities to support business objectives and plans, providing coaching and mentoring to elevate leadership and performance levels Identify and execute opportunities to improve processes and create efficiencies through lean principles Understand how to grow and develop new locations as the market allows expansion Administer non‑medical client complaints, oversee billing, calculation of discounts, and other special accounts, ensuring client flow is timely and professional Schedule and Compensation Consistent flexibility in scheduling is necessary; ideal candidate can work across multiple shifts, including day and evening hours Annual salary range: $110,000-$125,000 Annual profit‑sharing bonus plan Requirements / Personal Attributes 5+ years of progressive operational management experience with a record of success, including managing a P&L MBA or equivalent experience preferred Experience in larger‑scale healthcare (veterinary or human) preferred but not required Multi‑site leadership experience highly preferred but not required Quick learner who can absorb new information rapidly Self‑motivated and expert at motivating, coaching, and inspiring others Energetic participation and willingness to perform tasks, including flexible and irregular hours and role descriptions Proficient in Microsoft applications – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook Benefits Ethos Veterinary Health offers a comprehensive benefits program for all eligible employees: medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with employer match, paid time off (including sick time).
