The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical and surgical skills, with advanced soft tissue surgery experience preferred to support emergency and urgent care cases such as splenectomies, gastrointestinal foreign body obstructions, pyometras, cystotomies, exploratory surgeries, laceration repairs, and other emergency procedures commonly seen in small animal practice. Experience mentoring veterinarians, fostering a positive hospital culture, and driving medical excellence is highly valued. Position Overview The Medical Director is responsible for providing medical leadership for the hospital, managing associate veterinarians, and assuring regulatory compliance relating to the practice of veterinary medicine. They also create an environment of teamwork in which quality medicine and exceptional client service are delivered. Responsibilities Advancing Medical Care Oversee surgical and medical cases for all doctors, ensuring positive outcomes, accurate estimates, and client communication and education. Answer client questions and concerns regarding medical and surgical procedures. Provide oversight and direction of medical standards, quality of care and inventory. Establish medical protocols. Oversee transfer of medical cases from doctor to doctor. Minimize waste and control costs related to medical supplies, surgical instruments, and drug inventories. Leading Staff and Practice Participate in the recruiting and interviewing process for doctors, and when appropriate general staff members. Monitor doctor performance and production. Develop and monitor hospital‑specific client compliance protocols and procedures. Participate in technician appraisal and medical counseling sessions. Ensure all medical staff receive applicable training, including the mentoring of new graduates. Support the Hospital Manager with staff training programs and tracking CE and DVM licensure. Financial Responsibilities Drive revenue and hospital contribution growth, which includes managing all hospital expenses. Assist in the preparation of an annual planning strategy, operating budget, and capital budget. Monitor key financial reports. Growing the Practice Drive patient visits and encourage community involvement. Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required Licensure in the state/s candidate will be working Ability to show compassion to both pets and their owners Outstanding dexterity in handling animals while performing precise tasks Ability to react quickly and make decisions under pressure about the wellbeing of an animal Strong fondness and understanding of animals Good communication and interpersonal skillsKnowledge of animal behavior Ability to use medical technologies during diagnosis, research, and surgery of animals #J-18808-Ljbffr
