We act as the accounting department for our clients: we run their books, process their payroll, produce their monthly financial statements, and give their leadership teams the financial visibility to grow with confidence. Our clients are expanding, and we are building the team and infrastructure to grow with them.

About the Role

The Accounting Manager assists and oversees the accounting work for a portfolio of client companies, ensuring accurate books, timely month-end closes, and reliable financial statements. This role reports to the Controller and works closely with both internal teams and client leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, operational excellence, and outstanding client service. The ideal candidate is hands-on, organized, and comfortable managing multiple clients and deadlines at once.

Key Responsibilities

● Client Accounting Leadership

● Serve as the primary accounting contact for a portfolio of client companies.

● Build trusted relationships with clients and provide timely responses to accounting and financial inquiries.

● Review client financial results and provide meaningful explanations regarding trends, variances, and key business drivers.

● Ensure client accounting records are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies.

Financial Statement Cleanup & Catch-Up Projects

● Lead financial statement cleanup and remediation projects for new and existing clients, including:

o Partnering with the Controller and Assistant Controller to assess accounting records and define project scope.

o Reconciling and correcting balance sheet accounts, including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, debt, and equity.

o Researching and resolving unreconciled differences, misclassifications, and missing transactions.

o Recording adjusting journal entries and historical corrections as required.

o Bringing delinquent accounting records current and establishing reliable opening balances.

o Documenting findings, recommendations, and corrective actions for both internal teams and clients.

o Presenting significant adjustments and accounting issues to clients in a clear, understandable manner.

● Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

o Manage month-end and year-end close processes for multiple client entities.

o Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

o Ensure monthly close timelines are met and financial statements are delivered accurately and on schedule.

o Prepare and review monthly financial statement packages, including variance analyses and management reporting.

● Team Leadership & Development

o Supervise, mentor, train, and develop staff accountants

o Review staff work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm standards.

o Establish clear expectations, provide ongoing coaching, and support professional development.

o Assist in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and retaining accounting team members.

● Compliance & Operational Excellence

o Coordinate with the payroll team to ensure payroll transactions are accurately recorded in the general ledger.

o Support sales tax, 1099 reporting, annual audits, reviews, and tax preparation processes.

o Work with external auditors, tax professionals, and other third-party advisors.

o Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through process standardization, automation, and technology solutions.

o Assist with accounting software implementations, system conversions, and client onboarding projects.

o Support special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 6 to 12 months:

o Client financial statements are consistently delivered accurately and on agreed-upon deadlines.

o Month-end close processes are documented, standardized, and consistently followed across assigned clients.

o Cleanup projects are completed successfully with clear documentation and measurable improvements in financial accuracy.

o Material accounting issues are proactively identified and resolved before impacting client reporting.

o Staff accountants demonstrate growth, increased independence, and strong performance.

o Clients express confidence in the quality, responsiveness, and reliability of the accounting team.

Qualifications

Required

o Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

o 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.

o 2+ years of supervisory or management experience.

o Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation.

o Demonstrated experience cleaning up, reconstructing, and/or catching up inaccurate or incomplete accounting records.

o Strong account reconciliation and analytical problem-solving skills.

o Experience managing multiple entities, clients, or business units simultaneously.

o Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.

o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

o CPA license or CPA candidate.

o Public accounting experience.

o Experience in outsourced accounting, client accounting services (CAS), or multi-entity environments.

o Experience with cloud-based accounting and payroll systems (e.G., QuickBooks Online, Gusto, or similar platforms), with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and applications.

o Experience implementing accounting systems and process improvements.
