Family Law Attorney
Divorce With A Plan
Maryland|Hybrid|7+ years|Base + performance bonus Read this whole posting before you decide to apply. It is written to help the right lawyer say yes. Why This Role Exists Divorce is often the worst chapter of a person's life. Our clients are professionals and high-net-worth individuals in Maryland who have the means to hire anyone. They choose us because we do one thing exceptionally well: we take something chaotic and frightening and give it structure, a plan, and a path forward. We are hiring a Senior Family Law Associate who treats that responsibility as a privilege, not a transaction. Someone who takes genuine pride in walking a client through the hardest year of their life with competence and integrity, and who understands that how a client feels at the end of a matter is as much the work product as the settlement itself. How We Work Everything at this firm runs on three values. They are not wall art. They are how we make decisions and how we will evaluate you: Make Sense — Take complexity — a tangled marital estate, a high-conflict custody fight — and produce a clear, explainable path the client and the file can both follow. Right Way — Use proven systems, structure, and tested process. Do it right the first time. Improve the system; do not quietly abandon it. Contribute — Every output moves the client, the team, or the firm forward. If it does not, it gets reworked. Two outcomes decide everything we do, and they will define success in this seat: An empowered, contributing professional — you, practicing at a high level with real ownership. A happy, informed client who refers — because they understood what was happening, when, and what it cost. What You Will Own This is a senior seat. You carry your own matters and you are trusted to run them. You will: Manage a caseload of contested and high-asset family law matters (custody, support, property division, complex marital estates) from intake strategy through resolution. Own client relationships directly — you are the attorney they call, and you set expectations on what happens next, when, and what it costs. Take cases through the full lifecycle: pre-scheduling conference, pre-settlement, and pre-trial, working backward from the next milestone so nothing slips. Handle negotiation, mediation, and courtroom advocacy across Maryland counties. Supervise and elevate paralegal and junior support, and contribute to the systems that make our work repeatable. Meet our client-communication standards — required calls at each stage are the floor, not the ceiling. Who You Are You do not need us to describe you. You will recognize yourself here — and you will notice each trait maps to one of our three values: Make Sense — You make complexity make sense. You explain a hard financial estate or a custody dispute to a client so they feel informed and grounded, not smaller. Right Way — You are a systems thinker, not a freelancer. You value structure and proven process. You can improve a system, but you do not run every matter your own way with no shared method. Contribute — You are self-directed and take pride in the work. You move matters forward without being managed. A client's file is not a task list to you; you do it right because your name is on it. The Floor — You operate with integrity under pressure. You tell clients the truth, including the parts they do not want to hear. You do not inflame conflict to run up a bill, and you do not let a client's worst instincts drive the strategy. This is non-negotiable. Skills That Make You Successful Here The family law lawyers who thrive at Divorce With A Plan bring a specific mix: Legal judgment — issue-spotting and strategy in contested Maryland family law, at the level where you can be trusted without a second read. Financial fluency — comfort with the complexity common to high-net-worth divorce: business valuation, tracing, support modeling, and tax exposure. Negotiation and advocacy — you settle well when settlement serves the client, and you try the case well when it does not. Client communication — you translate legal posture into plain language, set expectations, and keep clients from ever guessing what happens next. Systems discipline — you work inside a defined process, document cleanly, and leave a file the next person can pick up. Supervision — you elevate the paralegals and junior staff around you rather than working around them. Requirements Admitted to the Maryland Bar and in good standing (or admitted and eligible for prompt waiver/reciprocity into Maryland). 7+ years of family law practice with meaningful contested and high-asset experience. Demonstrated track record running your own matters through trial and settlement. How To Know If This Is The Right Fit This seat fits a specific kind of lawyer. The best way to tell if it is you is not experience on paper — it is the habits and values you already hold. If the following describe how you already practice, the rest is mechanics we will teach: Make Sense — You steady people in crisis. Sitting with someone at the worst moment of their life is meaningful work to you. You carry the weight without letting it harden you, and you turn their confusion into a clear plan. Contribute — You own your work. You run matters from intake to resolution and take pride in being trusted to do it well. Autonomy feels like room to do your best work, not like being left without a net. Right Way — You build on systems. You work inside a shared process and improve it, because consistency is what protects the client. You would rather strengthen the method than run every file your own way. Make Sense — You communicate by instinct. Keeping a client informed is automatic for you. They never wonder where their case stands or when they will hear from you next. Contribute — You resolve rather than inflame. You measure a good outcome by how well the conflict was settled for the client, not by how hard it was fought. Integrity guides the strategy, even when it is the harder path. What We Offer Competitive base plus a performance bonus. Base commensurate with senior experience $135,000 - $175,000, with bonus tied to billed and collected hours. Real autonomy. You run your matters. We give you the system, the support, and the room to practice at a high level. A firm with a spine. Defined stages, clear standards, and a team that does it the right way. You will not be reinventing the process alone at 9pm. Benefits. [health, employer paid life insurance, 401(k) with employer matching, generous PTO, CLE/bar dues) How To Apply We read applications the way we build cases — by paying attention to detail. As part of our hiring process, we invite you to complete a virtual interview using the link below. In addition to allowing us to learn more about you, this experience provides you with a comprehensive introduction to our firm, our values, and what you can expect as a member of our team. Send the following to View email address on click.appcast.io: Your resume. A short note — no more than 300 words — answering one question: Describe a matter where doing right by the client was harder than doing what was expedient, and what you did. Applications without the note will not be reviewed. That is the first filter, and it is intentional. Divorce With a Plan is an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate every applicant on merit and fit for the work. #J-18808-Ljbffr
