The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City’s step placement policy.
ELIGIBILITY LIST PREFERENCE ORDER
Full-time City employees will receive preference in the following order: major division first, then department, then all other full-time City employees. Part-time/year-round City employees will receive preference next. If there are no qualified full-time City employees or part-time/year-round City employees, external applicants will then be considered (when the vacancy is open to external applicants).

POSITION DESIGNATION
This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.
JOB SUMMARY
This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Water Quality Division (Atoka) of the Utilities Department with the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. The Water Supply Mechanic Trainee receives on-the-job training from a Water Supply Mechanic II or other more senior individuals and works closely with other facility personnel in performing inspection, maintenance, and repair tasks of pipeline and pump station, facilities, equipment, and machinery. Essential job functions include: performing a variety of tasks related to the general maintenance of equipment and facilities; making minor and major mechanical repairs on pipeline and pump station machinery and components. The Water Supply Mechanic Trainee must possess the mechanical aptitude necessary for disassembling and assembling various pump and valve components and recognizing equipment malfunctions to ensure pipeline and pump station machinery remains in operable condition. Assignments are received in oral and/or written form with work performed subject to periodic inspections by a supervisor or other mechanics. Due to direct occupational health, safety and environmental concerns associated with performing both routine and non-routine water and/or wastewater operations, maintenance, and production tasks, the Water Supply Mechanic Trainee is a safety sensitive classification. Therefore, current and prospective employees are required to meet and maintain specific physical standards and guidelines.

NOTE: Water Supply Mechanic Trainee is an interim or temporary classification for otherwise qualified individuals who do not meet the full licensing requirements of a Water Supply Mechanic I and/or Water Supply Mechanic II.
NOTE: The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver License with twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
NOTE : The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Pesticide Technician License for Right of Way within ninety (90) days from date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
NOTE: The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Pesticide Technician License for Aquatics within ninety (90) days from date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
NOTE: The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality Class D Water Operator license for water systems within twelve (12) months from date of hire/promotion/ transfer/demotion.
NOTE: The employee will be required to live in a location within thirty (30) minute drive from assigned facility on the pipeline within six (6) months from date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
NOTE: Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining the required licensures and certifications within the above listed timeframes from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
NOTE: The Water Supply Mechanic Trainee will career progress to the Water Supply Mechanic I classification without a competitive selection process when the Water Supply Mechanic Trainee incumbent acquires all of the following: Class A Commercial Driver License; Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Pesticide Technician License for Right of Way; Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Pesticide Technician License for Aquatics; Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality Class D Water Operator license; and Certified Maintenance Technologist Level I Certification.

- Inside and outside, exposed to heat, cold, humidity, adverse weather conditions, etc.

- Subject to climbing portable ladders to heights up to 45 feet and climbing fixed ladders to heights of 265 feet above ground level to work on tanks, platforms, grating and equipment.

- Subject to working in confined spaces and cramped positions where limited or restricted means of entry or exit exist.
- Subject to working near moving objects such as motor vehicles and pipeline and pump station machinery or equipment.
- Frequently exposed to constant noise at low levels and occasional loud noise for extended periods.

- Arm-hand steadiness enough to perform tasks such as repairing pumps, motors, valves, piping, chemical feeder, etc.
- Manual and finger dexterity enough to use hand tools and replace small equipment or components.
- Near vision enough to perform tasks such as inspect equipment and read gauges, schematics, blueprints, etc.
- Far vision enough to observe co-workers at ground level, while working on tanks, in pits, and to identify warning signs at a distance of 20 feet etc.
- Visual color discrimination enough to identify red, green, and yellow items.
- Speech and hearing enough to communicate clearly and distinctly in person and by two-way radio, understand conversation in a noisy environment, and locate malfunctions in machinery.
- Maximum body mass, including equipment weighing up to 5 pounds, not to exceed 310 pounds.

Eligibility List: An eligibility list will be established from this posting consisting of applicants who receive a score of 70 percent or better.
