Work Shift: Monday to Friday; 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

The role involves conducting echocardiography tests and procedures in line with the standards set by the American Society of Echocardiography. Responsibilities include:

• Preparing patients for examinations by explaining procedures, transferring them to the ultrasound table, applying gel, and ensuring proper positioning.
• Operating ultrasound equipment to capture and document images of blood flow, organ shapes, tissue structures, or bodily masses, including fluid accumulations.
• Performing echocardiograms and providing preliminary oral or written summaries of technical findings to the interpreting physician for diagnostic purposes.
• Maintaining a thorough understanding of ultrasound machine operations and integrating new sonographic technologies as necessary.
• Conducting routine cardiac ultrasound procedures in various settings, including clinics, hospitals, and mobile sites.
• Engaging professionally with other healthcare professionals.
• Assisting with the submission and maintenance of Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) accreditation when required.
• Supervising or training students and cardiac sonographers as needed.
• Complying with safety and infection control policies established by the organization.
• Following internal standards and procedures in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.

Depending on the facility, additional responsibilities may include ultrasonography tasks.

For candidates working or hired in South Dakota:

• A graduate from an accredited two-year Cardiac Ultrasound Program is required.

For those in North Dakota:

• A graduate from an accredited cardiac sonography program or one year of experience in cardiac sonography is preferred. On-the-job training may be considered with appropriate leadership approval, provided the candidate holds an allied health certificate/diploma in an imaging modality.

For candidates in Minnesota:

• A graduate from an accredited two-year Cardiac Ultrasound Program or a bachelor’s degree with one year of equivalent work experience is required.

For all other states:

• A minimum of one year of equivalent work experience or an allied health certificate/diploma is required.

For those working or hired in South Dakota:

• American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification, or registry eligibility, is required within 12 months of employment. Leadership may require this to be obtained sooner based on departmental needs.

For candidates in all other states:

• Credentialing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), ARDMS, or CCI, or registry eligibility, is required within 18 months of hire. Leadership may extend this timeframe based on departmental requirements.

If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NDMIRT) Board is mandatory.

Employees providing outreach mobile services must maintain a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record, which may involve passenger flights and occasional overnight stays at assigned locations. Compliance with the organization’s driver’s license policy and medical guidelines is expected when applicable.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within six weeks of employment, with re-certification as needed.
