Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support accounting operations across a multi-location automotive dealership group. Reporting to the Vice President of Accounting, this role will work closely with dealership leadership and accounting personnel to ensure accurate financial reporting, resolve discrepancies, strengthen internal controls, and improve accounting processes.

The ideal candidate will have prior automotive dealership accounting experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to oversee daily accounting activities while supporting the development of accounting staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in overseeing dealership accounting operations, procedures, and personnel.
• Review general ledgers and account schedules, identify discrepancies, and coordinate corrective action plans with accounting and operations teams.
• Support timely and accurate financial reporting and maintain reliable accounting records.
• Collaborate with dealership management on financial results, financial analysis, and expense control.
• Assist with account reconciliations, month-end closing, and recurring accounting functions.
• Oversee and support daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, vehicle billing, and related transactions.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, operational efficiency, and internal controls.
• Supervise, train, and support office and accounting staff.
• Assist with hiring, performance management, and staffing requirements for the accounting team.
• Prepare financial information and supporting documentation for external accountants.
• Complete special projects and financial analyses as requested by accounting leadership, the CFO, or dealership management.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Prior automotive dealership accounting experience is required.
• Strong understanding of dealership accounting practices, including accounts payable, vehicle billing, general ledger reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Experience supervising, training, and developing accounting or office personnel.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with dealership management and work independently.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
• Experience with CDK dealership management systems is preferred.
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing competing priorities.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to teamwork.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
