Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDEPARTMENT:ProductionREPORTS TO:Director of OperationsJOB SUMMARY: Manages and coordinates all production activities, operations, and staff to ensure conformance to established procedures; implements practices that maximize production efforts to improve the overall effectiveness and financial performance of the production function.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Reviews, analyzes, modifies, and implements efficient and effective department processes, policies, and proceduresManage the capacity of the manufacturing processesResponsible for maintaining the production job scheduleMaintains knowledge of machine capacity and develops solutions for efficient utilizationInterfaces with maintenance and/or engineering to ensure all equipment in maintained in top conditionTroubleshoot and solve manufacturing problems, involves other departments and/or personnel as neededInterfaces with Quality department to ensure highest degree of final quality and develop new and better-quality methodsEnsures approved manufacturing methodology is being followedImplement lean standards and improvementsIdentifies, documents, and implements opportunities for continuous improvementDevelops and communicates goals and key initiatives to improve plant performance and successMaintains knowledge of the skills of the labor force to manage in time of employee absence or unexpected peak demandsInterfaces with Director of Operations to control operating costsDevelops, implements, and monitors department budget; manages expenses within approved budget constraintsSupport plant budget by controlling labor and overtime, inventory, supply spending, waste, etc.Hires, trains, supervises, motivates, and develops production staff; manages schedules and workflowAssigns duties and monitors quality of work; assures staff conforms to organizational policies and procedures and government regulationsProvides day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates; actively works to promote and recognize performance.Keeps up to date on overall activities of the team, identifying problem areas and taking corrective actions.Ensures all personnel are trained and institutes reinforcement training when necessaryReads travelers (work orders) and obtains (purchases if required) substrates, and related supplies as needed to produce jobsMaintains inventory levels of substrates/ suppliesWorks in collaboration with the warehouse department on housekeeping, inventory and other needsEnsures all safety rules and regulations are followed; investigates accidents in a timely, accurate, and complete mannerCoordinates and manages all safety trainingMaintains a safe work environment by taking corrective action to solve unsafe work practices or environmental issuesChampion all aspects of personal and facility safety including safety engagement, participating as a lead on a safety committee, instill a sense of self-responsibility for safety within the department and ensures the safe use of equipment, PPE and other safety related itemsPrepares required reports and correspondencePerforms other related duties as assigned by managementSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Directly supervises ~3-5 employees within the Production DepartmentIndirectly supervises 30-40 employees within the Production DepartmentCarries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable lawsResponsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problemsQUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s Degree required: Engineering or Operations preferredMinimum 5 years of manufacturing experience requiredProven ability to run a manufacturing operation requiredLean manufacturing formal training and/or experience preferredWorking knowledge of quality procedures in the medical industry preferredPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:Continually required to standContinually required to walkOccasionally required to sitContinually required to utilize hand and finger dexterityContinually required to talk or hearContinually work near moving mechanical partsOccasionally exposure to extreme heat or cold (non-weather)While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually very loud (the production floor is considered a sustained loud manufacturing environment that requires hearing protection)The employee must occasionally lift and /or move more than 50 pounds / frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds / continually lift and/or move up to 25 poundsSpecific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision;
