South Pointe Hospital’s 7th Floor Med/Surg and Observation Unit focuses on healing and surgery while providing comprehensive care and services to adults with a wide variety of diagnoses, such as chest pain, stomach pain, or generalized weakness. With such variety, no two days are the same, but you will be surrounded every day by a team of long‑standing caregivers who welcome you with open arms. As Assistant Nurse Manager, you will support the nurse manager by providing clinical supervision and unit coordination. This position offers a great way to gain extensive leadership experience while continuing to provide the best support and treatment possible. A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00p.m.–7:30a.m. with weekend and holiday rotation requirements. Responsibilities Manage the day‑to‑day operations of ambulatory procedural settings caring for hospitalized patients. Oversee nursing personnel and patient care providers in procedural settings to ensure quality of care. Anticipate and resolve patient care issues. Ensure continuity of patient care by actively participating in and facilitating communication and collaboration among and between department staff and other departments re: operational issues. Review major operational patient care issues with Nurse Managers. Provide ongoing clinical evaluation of nurses and other direct and indirect patient care providers on assigned unit/area. Counsel employees on performance issues, administer initial corrective actions, collaborate in monitoring attendance issues. Alert Nurse Manager of significant clinical or other performance issues. Participate in interviewing, selecting and appraising the performance of employees. Monitor the adherence to EEO/AAP goals and guidelines. Administer Nursing Institute, departmental and CC policies and procedures. Monitor daily clinical operations of outpatient clinics (patient flow, staffing, supplies, etc.). Prepare schedule of work assignment assuring adequate coverage on all shifts. Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives. Assist in orienting new personnel, continuing education and in‑service educational programs. Minimum Qualifications Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN). Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross. Two years of clinical experience. Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills. Good oral, written and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications Bedside experience. Epic experience. Recent inpatient experience. Physical Requirements Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids. Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work. Personal Protective Equipment Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
