Mental Health Clinician II (Rover/Float) - Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (Denver).

About the Position Provide therapeutic patient care for adults with acute and chronic exacerbation of a mental illness. The role works under the supervision of a registered nurse to deliver psychiatric nursing care, develop treatment plans, and maintain a safe therapeutic milieu. Responsibilities Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients, supporting psychiatric recovery and mental health. Advocate for patients and families; provide education on patient rights. Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and personal hygiene. Escort patients to activities, appointments, and community mobilization, including driving. Maintain confidentiality and complete required paperwork; communicate patient status via sign‑out/sign‑in systems. Document patient care, behaviors, and responses to treatment as required by hospital policy. Perform Rover/Internal Float duties as assigned. Maintain a safe treatment environment through effective milieu management, surveillance, and safety checks. Utilize verbal defense and influence (VDI) and crisis prevention intervention (CPI) techniques to manage aggressive behavior. Engage patients in unit activities, groups, and meals; monitor for safety and intervene when necessary. Participate in interdisciplinary team treatment planning and contribute clinical information to the plan of care. Perform any other duties necessary to support the mission of the division and department. Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to this position. OR a combination of four (4) years related education and/or relevant experience; documented in application. A Bachelor's Degree may substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Preferred Qualifications 1+ year of experience as a Mental Health Care Clinician I at a State of Colorado Mental Health Institute. 1+ year of professional inpatient mental health‑care experience in a psychiatric locked/secure setting. Experience developing and running treatment groups. Knowledge of trauma‑informed care and recovery principles. Outpatient mental health experience running groups or case management. College or university education in nursing, psychology, sociology, human services, or education. Highly Desirable Competencies Excellent written and oral communication skills. In‑patient mental health‑care experience and judgment in applying policies. Ability to work with internal and external clients, and to demonstrate initiative and teamwork. Ability to facilitate cooperation, trust, and group identity. Integrity and accountability in decision making. Conditions of Employment Full background and reference check required. Shift work may include days, evenings, or nights. Essential services designation; required to respond promptly to emergencies. Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license.
