Senior Accountant (Contract)

Location: Hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 days remote)

Employment Type: Contract (3–6 Months) with Potential for Contract-to-Hire

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support core accounting operations for a growing SaaS organization. This is a 3–6 month contract opportunity with the potential to convert to a permanent position based on business needs and performance. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in month-end close activities, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and SaaS-specific accounting practices, including deferred revenue, capitalized commissions, and bad debt reserve accounting. This role reports directly to the Controller.

• Prepare and maintain monthly account reconciliations and supporting schedules
• Perform balance sheet and income statement variance (flux) analyses and provide explanations for key changes.
• Manage CECL bad debt reserve calculations and bad debt write-off processes. Oversee capitalized commission accounting, including amortization and customer termination write-offs.
• Complete weekly cash reconciliations and support month-end close activities.
• Assist with sales tax compliance, registrations, and exemption documentation.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and requested documentation
• Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and efficiency gains. Participate in special projects and ad hoc financial reporting as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and accounting principles.
• Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with NetSuite ERP.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Public accounting experience.
• SaaS or technology industry accounting experience.
• Experience with Avalara sales tax software.
• Knowledge of deferred revenue, capitalized commissions, and CECL reserve accounting.
• Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude or Gemini for process improvement initiatives.
