Job Title: TIG Welder Job Description

The TIG Welder will perform precision welding on a wide range of components, from small medical devices to complex aerospace products. This role focuses primarily on stainless steel, with regular work on mild (carbon) steel and occasional aluminum welding. The welder will interpret blueprints, prepare and fit metal components, and ensure high-quality welds throughout the production process in an industrial shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and follow blueprints to arrange metal pieces and position components accurately before TIG welding.

• Perform TIG welding in multiple positions, including flat, horizontal, and vertical, on stainless steel, carbon steel, and occasionally aluminum.

• Safely set up and operate TIG welding machines and other shop equipment in accordance with safety procedures.

• Match work orders to the correct components and verify that materials and specifications align with job requirements.

• Conduct continuous quality inspections during the production process to ensure welds and finished parts meet specifications.

• Process and complete all required production and quality documentation accurately and on time.

• Weld, grind, and polish metal components to meet detailed component and finish specifications.

• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area, following all safety guidelines and using appropriate protective equipment.

Essential Skills

• Proficient TIG welding skills, particularly on stainless steel and mild (carbon) steel.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

• Experience in metal fabrication, including fitting and preparing components for welding.

• Capability to weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions.

• Skill in grinding and polishing metals to meet component specifications.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing thorough quality inspections.

• Ability to safely set up and operate welding machines and related shop equipment.

• Competence in matching work orders to components and following production instructions accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with aluminum using TIG welding is a strong plus.

• MIG welding experience is a plus, even though formal certification is not required.

• Familiarity with documenting production and quality activities in a manufacturing environment.

• Comfort working with a variety of metals and adapting welding techniques to different materials.

Work Environment

The role is based in a dirty, industrial shop environment that can be loud when machines are running. This is a physically demanding position that requires standing for long periods, lifting heavy equipment, and consistently wearing and using appropriate safety gear. You will work around active machinery, welding equipment, and metal fabrication tools, following established safety protocols and maintaining a clean, organized workspace.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newark, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $34.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
