Director of Real Estate - Thrasher Family Holdings

Thrasher Family Holdings, the family office and asset management arm of the Thrasher family of businesses, is seeking a Director of Real Estate to lead the family’s real estate strategy and investment activity, from managing a $100 million operating portfolio to identifying and pursuing new investment opportunities.

This is a unique opportunity to build and shape the real estate function for a growing family enterprise. The Director will have broad ownership of the company’s real estate activities, with a particular focus on expanding its investment portfolio and identifying opportunities to create long-term value through real estate.

The role has two primary areas of responsibility: (1) full oversight of the approximately 15 operating facilities that support the Thrasher Companies operating businesses, including sourcing and acquiring new facilities as operational needs grow; and (2) leading the company's real estate investment portfolio, which may include direct acquisition of multi-family or commercial properties as well as investment through third-party real estate funds.

This will initially be an individual contributor role with significant autonomy and close collaboration across the organization. The Director will work closely with the Controller of Thrasher Family Holdings on property accounting matters and with a Project Manager and local operating company or tenant leadership to oversee facility needs, maintenance, and capital projects. The Director will also coordinate regularly with the company's Risk Manager on insurance requirements and placements, and with outside brokers, attorneys, lenders, and fund managers as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead the Real Estate Portfolio

• Take ownership of the company’s approximately 15 operating facilities, ensuring the portfolio meets the evolving needs of the Thrasher Companies while maximizing the value and effectiveness of these assets.
• Maintain a current view of portfolio condition, valuations, and capital needs across all owned facilities.

Identify and Execute Acquisitions & Site Selection

• Source, evaluate, and negotiate the purchase of new facilities to support growth or changing needs of Thrasher Companies' operating businesses.
• Lead due diligence, financial underwriting, and closing coordination (with legal, tax, and lending partners) on all facility and investment acquisitions.

Build the Real Estate Investment Portfolio

• Develop and execute investment strategy for the company's real estate investment activity, including direct acquisition of multi-family and commercial properties and allocations to third-party real estate funds.
• Evaluate new investments opportunities, monitor fund manager and asset performance, and provide insight into portfolio performance and returns.

Oversee Property Management & Maintenance

• Oversee day-to-day property management across the portfolio, working directly with operation teams or through third-party managers, brokers, and vendors.
• Partner with the Project Manager on planning and prioritizing onsite maintenance and capital improvement projects.

Manage Leasing, Rent & Tenant Relationships

• Negotiate and manage leases for owned properties, including terms for both Thrasher operating businesses and any third-party tenants.
• Oversee rent collection, lease compliance, and tenant relations.

Partner on Property Accounting & Tax Management

• Partner with the Controller on property-level accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting.
• Manage property tax matters and work with tax advisors on transaction structuring (e.g., 1031 exchanges) and entity-level tax considerations for real estate holdings.

Manage Risk & Insurance

• Work with the Risk Manager to determine appropriate insurance coverage for all owned properties, and support placement, renewal, and claims processes.

Provide Strategic Insight

• Keep the Managing Director informed on portfolio performance, acquisition opportunities, and emerging real estate investments, making recommendations and ideas that support the family’s long-term objectives.

What we’re looking for:



 

• Bachelor's degree in real estate, finance, business, or a related field; MBA or relevant advanced degree/certification (e.g., CCIM, CPM) is a plus.
• 8–12+ years of experience in commercial real estate investment, asset management, or corporate real estate, including direct experience with property acquisitions and portfolio/asset management.
• Strong working knowledge of commercial leasing, property tax matters, property-level accounting, and insurance/risk considerations for real estate.
• Experience evaluating or investing in real estate funds is a plus.
• Strong financial modeling, underwriting, and analytical skills.
• Excellent negotiation, project management, and cross-functional communication skills; comfortable working independently while coordinating with accounting, risk management, and legal partners.
• Willingness to travel regularly across the portfolio's facility locations.
