Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg/Tele

Job Details:

• Night shift position from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• No on-call or standby requirement
• 29-bed Med Surg/Tele unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
• Common patient diagnoses include ortho trauma (fractures, joint replacements), vascular (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips, wound dressing changes), urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation), neuro-spine (laminectomy, fusion, back pain), OBGYN oncology, and acute medical admissions
• RNs required to titrate drips following a prescribed nomogram; common drips include heparin, nitroglycerin, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin
• Telemetry techs monitor patients 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own strips
• Nursing assistants present on unit; during 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM timeframe, RNs carry additional responsibilities for vital signs and ADLs
• Equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy; no ventilators; respiratory therapy support is available
• Float required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
• Block scheduling in place; no self-scheduling
• Charting system: Cerner
• 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience required
• Required certification: BLS (AHA)
• Dress code: Any color scrubs, clean and professional
• Orientation includes 1 day of computer training and 1-2 days of precepted floor orientation

This is a Level 2 trauma acute care facility offering a broad range of medical and surgical services. The unit supports a diverse patient population spanning orthopedic, vascular, urological, neurological, and oncological care. The facility provides robust support staff including charge nurses and house supervisors on all shifts, as well as nursing assistants and respiratory therapy professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
