The facility has a Level 1 Trauma Designation and is a teaching hospital. The unit includes a range of MedSurg and Telemetry patients. Common diagnoses include acute or chronic disease and co-morbidities. Patient types may range from diabetic and hypertensive patients to cardiac patients, including post-cath and CHF cases. The nurse-patient ratio is typically 1:4-6. Support staff includes CNAs and a charge nurse. Required skills include trach care and chest tube management. Strong assessment and time management skills are essential. Candidates must possess tele skills, including monitoring cardiac rhythms. Experience with drips such as insulin and heparin is necessary. Travelers are utilized in a float pool capacity, requiring flexibility. Weekend rotation is expected with 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 in a 6-week schedule. Holiday expectations include working one shift of each major holiday. RTO requests must be approved through management. The unit culture is busy and team-oriented.
