Export Jurisdiction & Classification Specialist

Schneider Electric has a hybrid opportunity for an Export Jurisdiction & Classification Specialist based in one of the following hub offices: Monterrey, Mexico ; Nashville, TN or Raleigh, NC . The Jurisdiction & Classification Specialist supports the company’s global export control program by determining the regulatory jurisdiction and export classifications of products, software, and technology across applicable international regulatory regimes. This role ensures that accurate and defensible classification determinations are established and maintained within company systems, enabling compliant global business operations. The position works closely with engineering, product management, and regional compliance teams to support the integration of export control considerations into product development and lifecycle processes. Accurate jurisdiction and classification determinations serve as the regulatory foundation for downstream export control activities including sanctions screening, licensing assessments, technology transfer controls, and export transaction reviews. Due to the nature of export-controlled technology and data handled in this role, responsibilities must be performed in compliance with applicable regulations, including the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the EU Dual-Use Regulation (EU) 2021/821. Access to certain controlled information, systems, or projects may be subject to regulatory restrictions based on citizenship or nationality. Individual technology control plans will apply. Key Responsibilities Export Classification Determinations Determine export control jurisdiction and classification for products, software, and technology under applicable regulations including the Export Administration Regulations Evaluate product technical characteristics against the Commerce Control List (CCL) and relevant regulatory parameters Conduct classification assessments for encryption functionality under Category 5, Part 2 where applicable Determine export classifications under international regulatory frameworks including the EU Dual-Use Regulation (EU) 2021/821 Prepare and maintain documented classification rationales supporting regulatory determinations Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with engineering, product management, and R&D teams to gather technical information necessary for classification determinations Support the integration of export control requirements into product lifecycle and development processes Provide classification guidance to regional export compliance teams supporting global operations Classification Data Management Maintain classification records and supporting documentation in company systems of record such as ERP, PLM, or trade compliance platforms Ensure classification determinations remain accurate as products evolve or regulatory requirements change Support initiatives to improve classification data quality and governance across the organization Compliance Program Support Assist with regulatory monitoring and evaluation of export control regulatory changes impacting product classifications Support internal training and awareness initiatives related to export control classification requirements Participate in global compliance initiatives designed to strengthen export control processes Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in engineering, international business, or related discipline Experience 3–5 years of experience in product classification and applying export control regulations to technical products Key Skills Strong analytical and technical evaluation capabilities Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and apply them to technical product characteristics Effective collaboration with engineering and product management teams Strong documentation discipline and attention to detail Ability to communicate complex regulatory topics clearly to non-compliance stakeholders Preferred Qualifications Experience classifying industrial automation, energy management, and electrical distribution products, including related software and embedded technologies Familiarity with encryption classification under Category 5, Part 2 Experience with EU dual-use export control regulations Experience with trade compliance systems such as SAP Global Trade Services or similar platforms Key Internal Interfaces Engineering and R&D Product Management / Offer Management Regional Export Compliance teams Global Trade Compliance leadership Legal and regulatory affairs - ERP / compliance systems teams Impact This role plays a critical part in ensuring that the company maintains an effective and defensible export control program.
