JOB TITLE: Accounting Supervisor
POSITION TYPE: Exempt (Salaried)
CURRENT WAGE: Salary is commensurate with education and experience ($60,000 - $63,000)
REPORTS TO: Director of Finance
EVALUATION: Annual Evaluation by Director of Finance

JOB SUMMARY: The Accounting Supervisor reports to the Director of Finance and is responsible for supervising the routine accounting, purchasing, and payroll operations of the district's business office under the direction of the Director of Finance. The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• The position requires knowledge normally acquired through a Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or institution in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Job experience or expertise in business, accounting, finance or payroll is required. Previous school or governmental experience is preferred
• Holds, or willing to obtain, MSBO Business Office Specialist or Business Office Manager Certification
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
• Knowledge of computerized accounting systems
• Knowledge of State of Michigan Accounting Manual preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication and ability to establish positive, productive relationships with others
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Excellent financial and business acumen, with the ability to quickly assimilate numbers and reports and provide well-reasoned, thoughtful, and succinct reports and recommendations
• Ability to work under pressure and multi-task with time-sensitive constraints

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Oversee Payroll functions, processes and employees
• Oversee Accounts Payable functions, processes and employees
• Oversee Accounts Receivable functions and processes
• Develops, maintains, and executes procedures for purchasing; and oversees district compliance; including purchasing card guidelines, account openings, and limits
• Coordinate and prepare annual audit schedules
• Reconciles monthly insurance bills and prepare/approve for payment
• Collaborates with Human Resources on payroll deduction/accounts of employee benefits
• Collaborate with Curriculum Department to oversee and enforce fiscal adherence for State and Federal grant expenditures
• Serve as back up for bank deposits to ensure proper checks and balances
• Serve as backup for receipting incoming checks/counting and receipting all monies coming in
• Invoicing for DCTC, unemployment, retiree billing, and others
• Complete interfund transfers/banking
• Update salaries annually with Sun Life & MESSA
• Develops, maintains procedures for, and executes journal entries
• Exhibit a positive demeanor and support a positive work environment
• Maintain consistent attendance and report to work on time as expected
• Complete assigned tasks, reports, and other requirements on time
• Attend all meetings and professional development required for this position
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy items.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a work day, and to sit/stand several times in short periods of time
