Maintenance Tech

Position Overview Maintenance Technician responsible for routine and non‑routine maintenance on production and facility equipment to support the manufacturing of roofing materials. The role meets safety, productivity, and machine uptime targets, conducts problem‑solving and troubleshooting, and implements corrective actions. The schedule is 5 pm–5 am with a 3‑2‑3 rotating shift. Your Day to Day Actions Follow all Johns Manville safety and environmental procedures and policies. Attend plant safety and training meetings as scheduled. Follow Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s), use safe work practices, and report hazardous conditions. Wear protective clothing and equipment as required. Develop JSA’s for new tasks and review JSA’s annually. Demonstrate ability to train coworkers on various plant systems. Perform routine and non‑routine maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems. Develop and modify preventive maintenance plans for new and modified equipment. Display advanced knowledge of electrical (single and three phase), plant power distribution, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Install and repair electrical conduit and cable, including connections, controls, and grounding. Work from electrical and mechanical schematics to troubleshoot or install or modify equipment. Perform voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, and other electrical measurements. Inspect equipment and report defective parts or unsatisfactory conditions to improve the preventive maintenance program. Maintain, adjust, service, and lubricate equipment to keep it in good operating condition. Participate in continuous improvement and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) teams. Assist coworkers as directed. Perform and complete other work assigned by supervisor. Provide feedback and solutions to leadership on critical equipment issues related to safety or operational capabilities. Display flexibility toward change management, cross‑functional teamwork, and willingness to learn new tools and methodologies. Participate in daily housekeeping, keeping job sites consistently clean after each job and maintaining a clean maintenance shop after every shift. Leadership Responsibilities Interact as a leader with all plant department employees. Communicate job status with plant supervision, including planned, unplanned jobs, parts availability, and engineering or technical resource needs. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. 4–7 years of multi‑craft maintenance experience. Strong commitment to safety. Ability to work well with others. Strong problem‑solving capabilities. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment. Intermediate computer skills. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and handle multiple priorities and projects. Technical skills for disassembly, diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of mechanical equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, reducers, couplings, seals, rotating elements, blowers, fans, hydraulic units, valves, chillers, and compressors. Advanced mechanical aptitude, including pipe fitting and fabricating. Knowledge of hand and power tools. Knowledge of shop machinery such as hydraulic press, mill, drill press, lathe, and saws (band & chop). Intermediate knowledge of building lighting, HVAC, and fire alarm systems. Advanced knowledge of Lock, Tag, Clear, and Try program. Intermediate knowledge of PLC and VFD troubleshooting. Advanced understanding of 480 V systems, arc‑flash training, and NFPA 70E safe working practices. Ability to troubleshoot process heating and cooling equipment. Consistently make appropriate decisions while being flexible with work assignments and priorities. Local travel for training purposes. Physical Requirements The role requires standing for extended periods, manually lifting, pushing or pulling at least 50 pounds, repetitive hand use, working in a fast‑paced and sometimes stressful environment, operating in dusty conditions with temperature extremes, and working rotating 12‑ or 8‑hour shifts.
