Job Title: Med Surg/IMC/Tele RN - Stepdown Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Med Surg/IMC/Tele RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours (1900-0730) Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience required License: Valid RN license Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Good communication skills Strong teamwork abilities Good work ethic Majority of cardiac experience 1 year of Tele, IMC/Stepdown RN experience Drip experience Previous travel experience preferred Description: The department consists of a stepdown unit with 28 beds. Average nurse to patient ratios are 1:5 during the day and evening shifts, and 1:5-7 during night shifts. Patients may present with various diagnoses, predominantly cardiac cases including pre and post-procedure cardiac patients. Other common conditions include CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, and wounds. Nurses are required to titrate drips such as insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, and furosemide. Tele/monitor techs provide 24/7 monitoring of patients but nurses are expected to read their own strips. Charge nurses do not have full assignments and serve as resources for RNs and nurse aides. Nurse aides are available with average ratios of 1:9 during the day/evening and 1:14 at night when full. Respiratory therapy equipment utilized includes continuous CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, vapotherm, nebulizers, and chest physiotherapy. Self-scheduling is not available; however, block scheduling may be accommodated when possible. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend. Holiday requirements entail working every other holiday. No on-call duty for agency staff; staffing may adjust as needed. Staff may be required to float to other med/surg floors or outside the med/surg cluster based on staffing needs. Professional scrubs in any color are acceptable as long as they are clean and presentable. All clinicians are required to clock in and out at the facility. This unit focuses on providing high-quality care to a diverse patient population with various medical needs.
