Sr. Dir, Biology-Discovery

Merck seeks a senior scientific leader to oversee translational research and biomarker strategy for immunology programs. The role involves leading cross-functional teams, designing hypothesis-driven studies, and bridging discovery with early clinical development to advance immune-focused therapeutics.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor translational and biomarker research teams while setting scientific direction and portfolio priorities
- Design and execute translational experimental plans including in vitro, ex vivo, and animal model studies aligned with clinical endpoints
- Oversee biomarker strategy implementation across preclinical and clinical settings with internal and external partners
- Identify and manage research partnerships with academic investigators and CROs for patient sample acquisition and multi-omics data generation
- Champion adoption of emerging technologies and therapeutic modalities to advance novel immunology targets and programs
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with 20+ years, Master's with 18+ years, or Ph.D. with 10+ years in immunology or related field
- At least 7 years of direct pharmaceutical industry experience
- 5+ years managing multiple teams with demonstrated leadership and talent development
- Deep knowledge of immune-mediated diseases, molecular pathways, and competitive immunology landscape
- Experience establishing translational research strategies and developing clinically relevant biomarkers
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with clinical, regulatory, and medical affairs teams
