Accounts Payable Director

I'm partnering with a confidential, rapidly growing organization to identify a Director of Accounts Payable who can lead a high-performing AP function in a complex, multi-entity environment. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a high-volume accounts payable department, managing a team of 10–15 AP professionals, and driving process improvements across the organization. The position reports directly to the Controller and will play a key role in scaling AP operations as the company continues to grow through acquisitions. Key Responsibilities Lead and develop a team of 10–15 Accounts Payable professionals, overseeing performance, coaching, hiring, and training. Manage the end-to-end accounts payable function across a large, multi-entity organization with significant invoice volume. Ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor payments, expense reports, reconciliations, and month-end close activities. Review AP registers, payment batches, and reconciliations to maintain accuracy and strong internal controls. Oversee annual 1099 reporting and compliance. Establish and optimize AP policies, procedures, workflows, and payment calendars. Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, Treasury, and Operations to improve efficiency and scalability. Lead the Accounts Payable team through an upcoming ERP implementation/conversion. Support the financial integration and onboarding of newly acquired entities. Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve operational effectiveness. What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. 5+ years of Accounts Payable management experience, including direct leadership of an AP team. Experience overseeing high-volume invoice processing within a multi-entity organization. Strong understanding of AP operations, internal controls, reconciliations, and compliance. Experience with ERP systems and process improvement initiatives; ERP implementation experience is highly preferred. A hands-on leader who enjoys building processes, developing teams, and improving operational efficiency.
