Position Description

The Grief Groups Coordinator plays a central role in delivering high-quality, developmentally

appropriate grief support groups for children, youth, and caregivers. This position is responsible

for implementing all aspects of group programming, including curriculum preparation, group

facilitation, volunteer coordination during group nights, documentation, evaluation, and cross-

team collaboration.

This position is 100% funded through the CDBG grant, serving low- and moderate-income

families under the Low–Moderate Area Benefit (LMA) National Objective. All duties performed

by the Grief Groups Coordinator must directly support CDBG-eligible services and be fully

documented in accordance with CDBG guidelines.

The Coordinator ensures that group programming is evidence-informed, trauma-informed,

grief-informed, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with the Children’s Grief Center’s

mission. The role requires excellent communication, facilitation skills, and an ability to support

participants experiencing grief-related emotional, behavioral, and relational challenges.

The Grief Groups Coordinator works closely with the Director of Grief Support Services,

Program & Volunteer Coordinator, and Navigator to ensure seamless delivery of services.

Education, Formal Training & Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Human Services, or related

field required; Master’s degree preferred.

• Minimum 2 years of experience working with children, youth, and families in clinical,

educational, or community-based environments.

• Experience facilitating therapeutic, psychoeducational, support, or youth developmental

groups.

• Understanding of grief-informed and trauma-informed practices strongly preferred.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and virtual facilitation platforms.

• Preferred bilingual ability in English and Spanish.

• Availability for evening programming.

• Reliable transportation, valid Texas driver’s license, and current insurance.

Duties & Responsibilities

DIRECT SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Facilitate grief support groups for children, teens, young adults, and caregivers using

evidence-informed curriculum.

• Ensure emotional safety, rapport, and developmentally appropriate engagement in all

group sessions.

• Prepare curriculum materials, session outlines, activities, and group facilitation plans.

• Provide support and guidance to participants before, during, and after group sessions as

needed.

• Coordinate volunteer facilitators weekly to ensure adequate staffing and readiness for

Family Grief Support Group Nights and specialty groups.

• Provide real-time volunteer guidance and support during groups, ensuring alignment

with curriculum and safety expectations.

• Assist families with internal connection to additional services such as navigation, camp,

workshops, or therapy referrals.

INDIRECT SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES (100% CDBG)

• Complete group documentation, attendance logs, CDBG-compliant service tracking,

curriculum fidelity notes, and outcomes tracking.

• Maintain group rosters, schedules, participant lists, and communication systems.

• Support program evaluation through survey dissemination, data entry, and outcome

recording.

• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case staffing, and supervision.

• Coordinate logistical preparation, session materials, and room set-up for group nights.

• Maintain communication with community partners and referral sources as appropriate.

• Assist with reporting and data aggregation for CDBG compliance and quality

improvement.

ROLE BOUNDARIES & CLINICAL OVERSIGHT

• The Grief Groups Coordinator facilitates all group programming but does not conduct

participant screenings or coordinate volunteer recruitment/retention ; these functions

are performed by the Program & Volunteer Coordinator.

• The Grief Groups Coordinator does not conduct navigation or case management; these

services are performed by the Navigator.

• All Family Grief Support Group Nights and specialty groups operate under the full clinical

and operational authority of the Director of Grief Support Services, who provides

oversight, consultation, and final decision-making for group-based programming.

COMPLIANCE & SAFETY

• Maintain confidentiality and follow CGC policies and professional standards.

• Ensure adherence to grief-informed, trauma-informed, and CDBG service guidelines.

• Report suspected abuse/neglect according to state law and internal policies.

• Maintain accurate and audit-ready documentation for all CDBG-funded activities.
