Documents Needed to Apply Required Resume Cover letter References (minimum of three) Purpose of Position The Student Ready Advisor plays a critical role in supporting student success (progression, retention, and completion) by providing academic advising, career planning, and personal development guidance to college students. This position helps students navigate academic challenges, set and achieve educational and career goals, and connect with campus resources to enhance their college experience. Assists with the administration and coordination of one or more essential academic or coaching program(s) or initiative(s). Assists with the training and onboarding of new student ready advisors and may provide supervision of a small team of advisors and support staff. Essential Functions Conducts holistic academic advising and coaching for current and prospective at promise student populations utilizing multiple modalities such as in-person, virtual, phone, and email. Provides guidance on academic topics such as degree requirements and relevant course selection and provides students with assistance in setting and achieving educational and career goals. Helps students make informed academic decisions by teaching them how to track their academic progress, locate and interpret appropriate policies, and utilize the tools and resources available. Monitors the academic progress of a caseload. Analyzes and interprets student data, transcripts, and placement results. Enters notes into Inspire, following best practices for documenting student appointments/contacts/interventions. Caseload management requires keeping abreast of relevant academic programs and support services such as counseling, career coaching, and tutoring within a College and the University and referring students as appropriate. Speaks to various constituencies representing the DSS and University community (e.g., students, advisors, parents, faculty, administrators, etc.) regarding the coaching and advising processes and other activities. May require teaching a section UNIV 1131 reserved for enrolled at-promise students. Maintains a clear understanding of all applicable federal, state, and University policies and procedures as it relates the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) and other THECB regulations. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Master’s degree and four (4) years of experience working with college students in an academic advising or coaching capacity or ten (10) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications Four (4) years of progressive academic advising experience at a public R1 University. Leadership and/or supervisory experience at an institution of higher education. Experience implementing, monitoring, and assessing student development programs/projects. Academic Advisor II. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of high-impact academic advising and coaching practices, CAS standards, university policies, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements related to student services. Knowledge of college and school degree requirements, the University Catalog, academic advising resources, and administrative functions that support recruitment, retention, and student success. Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills, with the ability to manage information, deadlines, and competing priorities. Ability to advocate for students, conduct proactive outreach, monitor academic progress, assess needs, and support timely and appropriate student interventions. Ability to lead, collaborate, build effective relationships with internal and external constituents, manage resources, and work independently with initiative and professionalism. Ability to work with sensitive student information and to maintain confidentiality. Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, Civitas, and student information systems to prepare reports, track outcomes, and assess efforts. Work Schedule Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm Some evenings and weekends may be required Working Conditions May work around standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
