RN - Clinical Decision Unit Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 18:45 - 07:15 Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in MedSurg, Telemetry, and Step-Down (PCU) level care. License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS preferred. Must-Have: Positive attitude with a focus on teamwork in a fast-paced environment. Description: We are seeking a dedicated registered nurse to join our Progressive Care Unit. The unit typically has a capacity of 40 beds. Patient ratios are 1:5 for Step-Down, 1:6 for MedSurg, and 1:5 if combined day and night. The goal is to maintain a free charge staffing model. There are typically 1-2 CNA staff members based on volume during day and night shifts. The unit is equipped with Baxter IV pumps. We utilize Cerner as our documentation system. Staffing requires every other weekend, no call, and assistance with holidays. Floating to other units within skill set is expected. Patient safety and care are our top priorities. A minimum of 2 years of recent MedSurg, Telemetry, and Step-Down experience is preferred. We focus on teamwork and maintaining a positive environment. Our main responsibilities include ED decompression and enhancing patient throughput. This is a Clinical Decision/Direct Admit Unit that receives patients from the ED. We conduct Admission Assessments, Medication Reconciliation, and initiate acute care orders. This process aims to reduce overall length of stay and improve the patient and family experience. A well-rounded nursing background is essential due to the variety of patient diagnoses. Charge Nurse experience or willingness to take on this role is valued. Minimal bedside procedures occur due to the unit's environment. Proper uniform consists of navy blue and white or a combination of both colors. Only appropriate navy or white jackets or sweaters are permitted if needed. Opportunities exist for additional roles in telemetry and ED transport nursing. Telemetry nurses oversee patient safety for those on telemetry. ED transport nurses assist with higher acuity patients moving from the ED to specialized inpatient units. This structure allows ED nurses to focus on ongoing patient care, improving throughput and patient flow.
