Phlebotomist IIPay Range: $19.00hr - $24.00hrJob Overview:The main function of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.Responsibilities:The candidate should have experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, and updating patient information.Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.Properly explains the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection (such as urine or fecal) to patients in a clear and courteous manner.Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.Fully understands all physician orders.Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test orders.Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure total accuracy.Packages specimens for transport.Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection containers, and accurately labels them following specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity.Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attends annual department trainings.Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Minimum Qualifications:Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required.Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.
