Compliance Graduate Assistant

The compliance graduate assistant is responsible for, but not limited to, assisting with the day-to-day duties of the compliance office. The position assists the assistant athletics director of compliance by being a secondary liaison between several university departments, including department of athletics and recreation leadership team, admissions, financial aid, academic records, student life, and student success. This is a ten-month, two-year appointment, both pending successful evaluation at the end of year one.

Responsibilities:

• Understanding of NCAA, conference, and university regulations and remains current on all legislative proposals regarding athletics.
• Implement policies and procedures to comply with NCAA legislation.
• Review potential eligibility issues.
• Provides legislative updates and issues rules interpretations as requested.
• Secondary contact with GLVC for all compliance reporting and monitoring.
• Tracks and monitors all CARA activities.
• Assists in the review of all NCAA eligibility lists for all teams.
• Logs official, unofficial visits and tryouts.
• Conducts rules education for coaches, student-athletes, and representatives of athletics interests.

Learning Outcomes:

• Develop a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, navigating the NCAA Bylaw Manual in particular.
• Learn how to utilize NCAA system resources to research rules and interpretations.
• Practice pivotal skills such as informational emails, presenting in person information to small groups, and active listening to understand a question being asked.
• Engage with both staff and student-athletes in a professional manner.

Compensation:

Stipend for the academic year: $3,000.00. Tuition award for the academic year: 12 Credit Hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Candidates must be accepted into one of the following graduate programs at Maryville University:
• MBA
• Strategic Communication
• Management, and Leadership

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in sports management or related field preferred
• Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, rules and regulations of athletic associations and conferences.
• Knowledge and skill in using integrated software systems and Microsoft applications
