Job Summary: Assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures by ensuring the operating suite is fully prepared and all surgical instruments and supplies are monitored and sterilized. Participate in staff meetings and performance improvement activities while maintaining strict infection prevention and control standards. Provide leadership in the absence of management and adapt to new ideas and stressful conditions. On-call availability with a 30-minute response time is required.

Essential Functions:

• Interact professionally with patients and their families, offering explanations and reassurance as needed.
• Notify licensed staff promptly if patients report pain.
• Adapt procedures to meet the needs of patients across all age groups, from neonates to geriatrics.
• Prepare operating rooms efficiently with all necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment tailored to each surgical procedure.
• Handle specimens with care and accuracy at all times.
• Assist in patient positioning, prepping, and draping for surgery.
• Complete accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and needles, reporting discrepancies immediately.
• Maintain medical and surgical asepsis throughout treatments and procedures.
• Ensure a safe environment for patients, coworkers, and self by following established policies.
• Verify all equipment and instruments are functioning properly before procedures.
• Respect patient privacy and sensitivities, observing patients with minimal disturbance.
• Address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs of patients and families with dignity and respect.
• Follow aseptic techniques when opening sterile supplies and setting up procedures.
• Perform all patient care activities in a manner that optimizes safety and minimizes healthcare errors.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Registered Surgical Technician status.
• Preferred: Minimum of one year of experience in operating room or sterile processing environments.
