Assistant Project Manager

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer to support the planning, design, and construction of public facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals with experience in construction management, project engineering, or public works who want to gain exposure to every phase of the project lifecycle—from planning and design through construction and closeout. Responsibilities Assist with planning, pre‑construction, bidding, construction, and project closeout activities for multiple capital improvement projects. Support project managers by validating existing site conditions and assisting with project scope development. Review design documents and proposed scopes of work, providing recommendations to improve project quality and constructability. Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, utility companies, and public agencies throughout project delivery. Monitor project budgets, schedules, and overall project progress while ensuring work remains within the approved scope. Prepare project status reports, meeting documentation, and management updates. Assist with contract administration, bidding activities, and procurement support. Participate in estimating efforts, scope reviews, and change management. Maintain facility inventory drawings and project documentation using AutoCAD. Support the development and improvement of project management procedures and best practices. Perform site visits and assist with project coordination as needed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. A Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential or equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum 5 years of professional experience in construction or project management. Experience supporting projects through planning, design, construction, and closeout. Knowledge of construction safety practices, Cal OSHA requirements, and environmental compliance. Preferred Qualifications Experience with public works, educational facilities, or government capital improvement projects. Strong understanding of construction administration and project coordination. Experience with budgeting, estimating, scheduling, and project reporting. Familiarity with construction drawings, design coordination, and utility coordination. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
