Job Description:\n\nPosition Summary\nYouth Eastside Services (YES) seeks an experienced nonprofit Vice President of Finance & Operations with a commitment to develop and implement strong finance and operational systems to help YES be among the strongest youth-serving behavioral health agencies in WA.\n\nAbout YES\nYouth Eastside Services (YES) is a leading provider of youth behavioral health services in East King County. Through school-based, clinic-based, and community-based programs, we partner with young people, families, schools, and communities to provide mental health counseling, substance use treatment, psychiatric services, prevention education, and family support.\n\nEach year, YES serves more than 4,000 children, youth, and families across the Eastside. Our mission is to help youth reach their full potential, strengthen families, and advocate for a safe, caring, and equitable community through behavioral health support, expert intervention, outreach, and education.\n\nFor more information, visit YouthEastsideServices.org.\n\nThe Opportunity\nYES is seeking a Vice President of Finance & Operations to serve as a key member of senior leadership and steward the financial, operational, and people systems that power YES’ mission, as our organization grows. The Vice President of Finance and Operations will oversee YES’ financial management, compliance infrastructure, internal operations, and human resources functions. This is a builder role — this leader will develop the staff leads for HR and Systems to design and strengthen the systems and processes that allow the rest of the organization to operate with confidence and accountability. The Vice President of Finance and Operations will be the partner that the CEO, Board of Trustees, Vice President of Clinical Operations and other leadership and program teams rely on to make sound decisions, manage risk, and sustain organizational health.\n\nFollowing an expected retirement and an interim Controller, this position will lead a newly configured, integrated and strengthened team for YES finance and operations, including a recently launched new ERP and new HRIS, that support YES’ expanding operations. Your finance and operations expertise and passion for our mission will play a vital role in expanding YES's impact throughout East King County.\n\nCore Responsibilities\n Financial Leadership & Management\n\nAccounting Control: Directs invoicing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger management, and monthly cash flow forecasting. Oversees financial management of grants, contracts and restricted funds. Maintains strong system of organizational controls that safeguards organizational assets.\nBudget Strategy: Leads annual organizational budgeting while collaborating with program heads to monitor grant spending and tracking. Leads short- and long-term financial planning. Develops financial models and scenario analyses to evaluate strategic opportunities, organizational risks, and long-term financial sustainability.\nBoard Reporting: Prepares comprehensive financial statements for presentation to the Executive Director, Finance Committee, and Board, applying GAAP standards for nonprofit organizations.\nAudit & Tax: Functions as the primary liaison for annual external financial audits and ensures the timely filing of IRS Form 990.\nFinance Strategy: Guides investment policy and strategy, cash, liquidity, asset and reserve management, business planning and development.\n\nOperations & Infrastructure\n\nFacilities & Vendors: Oversees physical office layouts, leases, equipment vendor agreements, and commercial liability insurance policies. Ensures facility licensing with cities and State of Washington.\nTechnology Systems: Oversees internal information technology networks, software licensing infrastructure, and digital cybersecurity protocols.\nRegulatory Compliance & Risk Management: Secures organizational compliance with all state, local, federal laws and regulations, and multi-year restricted grant parameters. Ensures development and maintenance of organizational policies and procedures in collaboration with VP of Clinical Operations. Oversees insurance, risk management by partnering with external legal counsel, supports governance activities of Board of Trustees. Maintains relevant nonprofit corporation reports with WA Secretary of State. Ensures Board training on compliance functions. Maintains property and casualty insurance, malpractice and liability coverage.\nOperational Systems: Strengthens organization’s operational systems, processes and infrastructure to improve operational excellence, including efficiencies, effectiveness, and cross-functional collaboration.\n\n Human Resources & Talent Management\n\nTalent Management: Ensures talent recruitment planning and pipelines, staff onboarding, strong training and performance evaluation cycles, and offboarding through a strong HR function.\nPayroll & Benefits: Ensures administration of accurate bi-weekly payroll processing, compensation schedules, and employee benefits packages (medical, dental, 403b, Roth IRA, 401k).\nPolicy & Culture: Ensures updated employee handbooks, resolution of workplace grievances, training, benchmarking, salary bands and supports YES diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging plans and a trauma-informed workplace.\n\n \n Team Building & Operational Excellence\n\nIntegration and Cross-Team Functions: Oversees processes and systems that maximize inter-team coordination and efficiencies. Ensures direct coordination with Development & Community Relations Team as YES builds its Culture of Philanthropy, grant budgeting, proposal development, financial reporting, and review of grant/contract agreements for financial, legal and compliance considerations. Coordinates strategy and financial planning with VP of Clinical Operations.\nTeam Development: Functions as strong coach and support for professional development and training of each team member, recognizing unique strengths and needs of each person. Assesses roles to determine organizational needs and gaps, structures, continue to identify opportunities to strengthen team processes, workflows, and systems.\nCustomer-oriented Operational Excellence: Fosters a collaborative, service-oriented culture within the Finance & Operations function that delivers high-quality support across the organization.\n\n Senior Executive Leadership Functions\n\nStrengthening Overall Organizational Culture: As member of Executive Leadership Team, supports positive agency-wide culture through employee engagement, benchmarking culture indicators, assuring opportunities for workplace personal engagement, balanced with a strong operational excellence culture.\nHelps drive strategic planning and professional development across the agency.\nPeer mentor to other senior leaders as needed.\n\n Immediate Priorities for the New Role\n\nFully implement new financial systems and policies (new ERP currently in process).\nAssess bookkeeping function and needs with new ERP.\nBuild team culture and assess and address professional development of newly configured team.\nAssess and strengthen investment policies and portfolio.\n\nQualifications & Requirements\nRequired: The ideal candidate is an experienced financial and operational leader with strong nonprofit organization expertise, exceptional analytical and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights that support strategic decision-making. You will have expertise and experience including:\n\nEducation & Credentials: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting or HR or related field required; CPA highly valued.\nExperience Level: Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive financial and operations leadership.\n\nStrong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting, restricted grant fund accounting.\nTechnology Competence: Advanced mastery of SageIntaact, familiarity with Bamboo HRIS, Sharepoint and Microsoft Excel and MS Teams. Experience with donor CRMs, including DonorPerfect and Blackbaud. Oversight of IT teams preferred.\nHuman Resources Competence: Deep human resources leadership experience, demonstrating compliance with Washington law including: Minimum Wage Act, Washington Administrative Code Overtime Exemptions, Equal Pay and Opportunities Act, Paid Family and Medical Leave, Paid Sick Leave Law and all relevant Federal and local laws.\nTeam management of up to 10 staff, with up to 5 Direct Reports. Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop individuals and teams while fostering a collaborative, service-oriented culture.\nDemonstrated ability to develop and maintain internal controls, oversee audits, manage cash flow, and present financial information and recommendations to executive leadership, board, and boards of directors.\nDemonstrated ability to exercise discretion and sound independent judgment on matters of organizational significance.\nAbility to operate with a high degree of autonomy, manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing organizational needs, and achieve results in a dynamic environment.\nDemonstrated systems thinker with the ability to strengthen organizational capacity by improving systems, processes, and infrastructure while enhancing cross-functional collaboration, and organizational effectiveness.\nExceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and communicate complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.\nExceptional judgment, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.\nAbility to successfully work as part of a hybrid team, ensuring team development for remote and on-site staff.\nInspired by and dedicated to YES’ strong mission of serving as a lifeline for children and youth coping with challenges such as emotional distress, substance abuse and violence, regardless of ability to pay.
