Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)

Role Description The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) will perform daily on‑site and fabrication shop welding inspections on construction and infrastructure projects in the Greater Boston area, United States and Canada to verify compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards. This is a full‑time, on‑site role that involves reviewing welding procedures, monitoring welding activities, conducting visual and non‑destructive examinations, and documenting findings in detailed inspection reports. The CWI will collaborate closely with project managers, contractors, and quality assurance teams to address non‑conformances, recommend corrective actions, and support continuous improvement of welding practices. The role includes interpreting engineering drawings and technical documents, maintaining accurate records, participating in progress and coordination meetings, and ensuring that safety and quality requirements are consistently met. Travel between project sites and working outdoors in varying conditions can be expected. Qualifications Quality‑focused competencies: Candidates should possess skills in Quality Control and Quality Assurance to ensure welded components meet applicable standards and project requirements. Technical welding expertise: Candidates should possess skills in Welding and Welding Inspection to evaluate weld integrity, techniques, and adherence to approved procedures. Inspection capabilities: Candidates should possess skills in Inspection to conduct thorough site assessments, document findings, and support compliance with regulatory and client specifications. Current certifications and education: AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential required; associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction technology, or a related field is preferred. Industry and technical knowledge: Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (e.g., AWS, AISC, ASME), non‑destructive testing methods, and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications. Professional competencies: Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, ability to work cooperatively with multidisciplinary teams, and commitment to safety practices on active job sites.
