1st Shift - Multi-Craft - Maintenance Technician

This role is a hands-on, multi-craft maintenance position in a fast-paced food manufacturing and packaging facility. The Maintenance Technician performs industrial maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and installations on a wide range of equipment and systems, ensuring high levels of reliability, safety, and efficiency across the plant.

Responsibilities

• Perform industrial maintenance and troubleshooting on food manufacturing and packaging equipment in a fast-paced production environment.
• Diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, HVAC, and plumbing systems throughout the facility.
• Conduct PLC troubleshooting using Allen-Bradley controls and ladder logic to identify, analyze, and resolve equipment issues.
• Work regularly with 480V, 3-phase electrical systems, motors, variable speed drives (VFDs), speed reducers, pumps, and associated utilities.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance as well as emergency repairs on production equipment, including boilers, drying machines, cutters, packaging machinery, extruders, scales, conveyors, vacuum systems, and pumps.
• Install new equipment, relocate existing machinery, and assist with facility improvement and capital projects in collaboration with Engineering.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic components to minimize equipment downtime and improve equipment reliability.
• Maintain accurate maintenance documentation, including preventative maintenance records, work orders, and repair logs.
• Support plant initiatives related to food safety, OSHA compliance, 5S standards, and overall facility safety programs.
• Ensure equipment reliability, plant cleanliness, and operational efficiency while actively supporting continuous improvement efforts.
• Work independently as the sole maintenance technician on site, prioritizing and completing maintenance tasks with minimal supervision.
• Identify recurring issues and recommend long-term corrective actions to improve equipment performance and reduce unplanned downtime.

Essential Skills

• At least 5 years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience in a multi-craft environment.
• Proven ability to work independently as the sole maintenance person for a plant, including prioritizing and managing workload.
• Strong PLC troubleshooting experience with Allen-Bradley systems and ladder logic.
• Hands-on experience working with 480V and 3-phase electrical systems, including motors and VFDs.
• Demonstrated mechanical maintenance experience on production equipment such as boilers, cutters, packaging equipment, extruders, pumps, conveyors, and related machinery.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems independently.
• Experience performing preventative and corrective maintenance in an industrial or food manufacturing environment.
• Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including reading schematics and using diagnostic tools.
• Comfort working with industrial utilities and facility support systems such as HVAC and plumbing.
• Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in a food-grade or food manufacturing environment is a plus.
• Arc Flash training or certification is a plus.
• Familiarity with 5S and continuous improvement practices.
• Experience with maintenance management practices and systems.
• Ability to support and comply with food safety and OSHA requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under time pressure.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with production and engineering teams.

Work Environment

This role is based in a small, close-knit food manufacturing facility with a workforce of approximately a dozen employees, offering a stable and family-friendly atmosphere. The position follows a 1st shift schedule, working four 810 hour days from Monday to Thursday (typically 6:00 a.m. to 2:004:00 p.m.), providing a four-day work week. As a food manufacturer, the environment can become hot, and adherence to food safety and hygiene standards is required. Hair and beard nets are required if not clean shaven, and jewelry is not allowed in production areas. The work involves regular interaction with industrial production equipment, packaging machinery, boilers, extruders, conveyors, pumps, and related systems, along with exposure to 480V, 3-phase electrical systems and Allen-Bradley PLC controls. The facility emphasizes cleanliness, safety, and reliability, and provides a structured yet collaborative setting where the maintenance technician plays a key role in keeping operations running smoothly.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
